ABOUT OUR COLLEGE
South Cheshire College is the home of post-16 education in Crewe and Nantwich and is one of the leading tertiary and sixth form colleges nationally. From Friday 31st March 2017, South Cheshire College merged with West Cheshire College to create a new FE College for Cheshire, now offering a wide range of learning provision across three campuses – Crewe, Chester and Ellesmere Port.
Our Crewe-based campus is situated in a residential area about one and a half miles from Crewe town centre. It is ten minutes walk from Crewe train station and has close links to Junctions 16 & 17 of the M6.
Students travel to study at our Crewe-based campus from throughout Cheshire, notably Crewe, Nantwich, Alsager, Middlewich, Winsford, Sandbach and Congleton. They also travel from areas much further-a-field from Staffordshire and Shropshire. Indeed, through our International Programme, students travel from across the world to study at South Cheshire College.
The College mainly provides education for 16-19 year-olds but also offers apprenticeships and other work-based learning programmes. We also offer Higher Education courses and a range of courses for adults, many of whom are returning to education after a long break are also available.
South Cheshire College prides itself on excellence and 2016/17 was another year of outstanding academic achievement with an increase in students achieving top grades on both A-level courses and Vocational programmes.
Students achieved a 99.7% pass rate for A-Levels, with 82.1% achieving top grades (A*-C) and 52.7% achieving grades A*-B.
99.6% of students passed the Extended Diploma, with 57.4% achieving high grades of Distinction* or Distinction.
South Cheshire College was also praised following a ‘Good’ Ofsted grading inspection in 2016 which again confirmed its position as a leading Further Education provider in the region.
Inspectors commented on the ‘good teaching, learning and assessment’ and highlighted that the large majority of learners make good progress compared to their starting points and the majority of learners meet or exceed their target grades.
Inspectors described the implementation of 16 to 19 study programmes as ‘highly effective’ and that they meet the needs of learners well.
South Cheshire College is also developing strong international links with educational institutions around the world in countries such as China and Thailand. As a result, students are travelling to the College to study A-Levels, Vocational programmes and other shorter courses
Students are housed with local families throughout their stay through the ‘Homestay’ programme.
South Cheshire College has strong links with Oxford University and is the Pembroke North hub for the University’s Pembroke College.
It is also the North West Science Centre in partnership with the University of Oxford’s Corpus Christi College and Pembroke College.
College students work closely with the University of Oxford through the Honours and Raising Aspirations programme which provides opportunities for personal and academic achievement and gives students the competitive edge they need when applying to the most prestigious universities in the country.
The College has achieved the acclaimed STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths) assured status, highlighting the quality of provision. It also has also received numerous other awards including Beacon Status which recognises excellent institutions that deliver high-quality teaching and learning and Investors in People Gold status.
Finally, the College has world-class facilities in the £74 million campus that opened in September 2010, including a huge sports arena, theatre, state-of-the-art workshops, three-storey library and café outlets.
