Introduction

About ICARUS Wings Advanced Language Proficiency Training for Flight Crew

ICARUS Wings is an innovative set of advanced language proficiency courses for all flight crew delivered by professional instructors at Groundschool London. The three courses were put together by an experienced Flight Crew Licensing Instructor, also a member of the International Civil Aviation English Association, with several years of experience in the field of Aviation English training with major airlines in Europe.

Unlike other language proficiency courses which are all classroom-based, these courses are divided into both classroom and training in state of the art FTD flight simulators – Boeing 737-800 and Airbus A320 (from the summer). The advantage of this structure is that flight crew can learn the language used in aviation in the morning, and in the afternoon put it into practice in up to 10.5 hours of work in the simulator. This method, based on decades of studies in applied neurophysiology of second language acquisition, will increase the student's learning curve resulting in better overall results.

The aim is that by the end of the course pilots will be ready to pass their ICAO Language Proficiency Exam with a minimum Level 4 (Operational). For cabin crew, they will receive a valid certificate stating their language level in both CEF and Oxford/Cambridge format. Pilots will receive a certificate of attendance.

The three courses presented under ICARUS Wings Advanced Language Proficiency for Flight Crew are:

  • FCL* Failed Exam Recuperation (Language Proficiency)
  • FCL* Exam Preparation (Language Proficiency)
  • English for Cabin Crew

*Flight Crew Licensing

For each course students will receive a personal copy of the coursebook used. Pilots will also receive a copy of 'Test Your Aviation English'. All coursebooks are theirs to keep.
