Introduction

Why study at GCU?

Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU) has one of the most modern and student-focused campuses in the UK. It has a community of 17,000 students and is one of the largest universities in Scotland. The University prides itself on its facilities and providing an outstanding student experience.

It's the first University in Scotland to be awarded ‘Changemaker Campus' status by Ashoka U. Through innovative research, teaching and collaborations, GCU changes lives. It's a University dedicated to developing education and helping people worldwide. And you can be a part of it.

You'll be studying on an international campus. The student community brings together people from over 100 countries. You'll benefit from the University's partnerships across the globe, including China, India, North and South America, Bangladesh and Oman. It has campuses in Glasgow, London and New York.

Learning at the INTO Centre

The INTO Centre is right in the centre of campus. Inside, you’ll find a lecture theatre, classrooms and meeting spaces.

Want to talk to someone? Come to the INTO Centre. You’ll find all our support services there. Feeling homesick? Worried about your studies? Something in your accommodation not quite right? Whatever the issue, we’re here for you when you need us.

Moving to a new country is a big step and we’ll help wherever we can. From opening a UK bank account to registering with a doctor. Need help with your visa? No problem – we’ll help you sort it in one of our visa workshops.

Living in student accommodation means you’ll be making friends as soon as you arrive. Everyone in the Centre will be excited to meet you! We’ll organise some fun activities and trips for you so you get some quality time with your new friends.

And don’t forget you’ll have access to all the clubs and societies at the University. They are a great way to make friends with people who love the same things as you.

What makes GCU special?

Glasgow Caledonian University is a community. With over 20,000 students it’s not small but it is intimate.

You’ll join students from all over the world – over 100 different countries, in fact. The campus is close-knit, so you’ll find it easy to make friends.

Looking for a place to meet other students and relax? The Student's Association Building is the place to be. On the first floor you'll find the Student Bistro. Here you can share a meal with friends and play a game of pool or table football together.

The campus is just a 10-minute walk to Glasgow city centre. You'll be spoilt for choice when it comes to food. When you want to stay on campus, there are three cafes for you to refuel with snacks and coffee.

95% of GCU students find employment or further study within six months of graduating (DLHE 2015). That’s because degrees here are focused on preparing you for an amazing career, whatever you choose. Work experience is offered on most courses, giving you an advantage over other graduates. And you’ll get your hands on some specialist equipment, such as:

  • a broadcasting suite
  • a virtual hospital
  • clinical simulation labs
  • eye clinic

Preparing for your future

Studying in the UK may be quite different to what you're used to. But, don't worry, our friendly teaching staff will help you adapt to the learning culture here.

They'll show you how to write academic essays and reference your sources. You'll get plenty of practice and support with writing, conducting research and doing presentations. So, when the time comes, you'll be ready for your degree.

GCU's degree programmes are career-focused. Whatever job you want to do in the future, a degree from GCU can help you get there. Over 95% of GCU graduates find work or further study within six months of graduation. Most degrees contain an element of work experience, so you'll gain unique insight into the industry and make contacts for the future.

A degree from GCU is well regarded and respected worldwide, so you're in good company. GCU's programmes are supported by major global brands such as Santander, FMC Technologies and Marks & Spencer. The MSc in Risk Management was described as ‘a beacon of expertise' by Steve Fowler, Chief Executive of the Institute of Risk Management.

Study in the heart of Glasgow

The location of the University campus is perfect for students. With the city centre just a five-minute walk away from campus, you'll get all the excitement of living in a busy cosmopolitan city. Glasgow embraces international students and has a large student community, so you'll be made to feel right at home.

Love sports? With over 50 sports clubs to join, you're sure to find the right one for you. You'll have access to the Arc Sports Centre, with two gyms providing cardio and weightlifting equipment. And you'll be able to take part in fitness classes like yoga and boxercise.

If you want to play a game of badminton or basketball with friends, you can hire one of the Arc's two sports halls. Or enjoy a game of tennis, football or volleyball in the brand new outdoor activity area.
