Cookery School’s approach to food is simple, modern and imaginative. We love sharing our ideas for delicious home-cooking and are constantly finding fresh sources of inspiration to bring to our classes, through our menus and our suppliers. At Cookery School the atmosphere is fun and informative. We provide the skills necessary to become a confident and independent cook and all our classes have a very high proportion of hands-on practice. There is always plenty of opportunities to ask questions and gain an understanding of supposedly demanding techniques. Every session involves tasting all the food that has been made, further enhancing your ability to become a skilled home cook. Cookery School’s principal, Rosalind Rathouse, is obsessed with food. She has worked as a professional cook, run her own cookery business and taught cookery to both adults and children for many years. She feels very strongly that proper teaching can enthuse even the most unconfident cook by demystifying cookery techniques and jargon

Our Absolute Beginners course runs one evening a week for six weeks. If you would like a more intensive version of this course, we also offer Absolute Beginners Intensive, which runs intensively over three days.

Our cooking courses for beginners will take you from novice to good home cook and teach you the skills you need to cook with confidence. Over the 6 sessions of this course we’ll teach you how to cook a wide variety of different styles of food and give you a great repertoire of recipes and techniques to use every day. At the end of each class you will sit down and try everything you have made as well as recap the recipes with the chefs.

Our Intermediate – Proper Home Cooking Skills Course runs one evening a week for eight weeks. If you would like a more intensive version of this course, see our Intermediate Intensive Course, which runs intensively over four days.

After trying out the techniques, you get to eat the food cooked during the class (sufficient for a light meal), accompanied by wine. We also email you the full set of recipes you will have learned during the course.

Session 1 – Meat

Learn how to choose your meat and which cuts of meat best suit a particular type of cooking. All of the meat we use at Cookery School is organic and sustainable.
