Intensive English Program

The mission of the English Language Program at Mesa Community College is to provide students with high-quality language instruction and cultural skills necessary for success in their academic, professional, civic, and personal lives.We accept students at all language levels from beginner to advanced. Students interested in a degree program at MCC who need to improve their English, can start with intensive English classes.

The Admissions Process Requirements

1. Submit One Form of Proof of English Proficiency. Choose either:

Academic Programs

Choose one from the following:

  • TOEFL - A minimum of iBT-61, CBT-173, or PBT-500
  • IELTS Indicator - A minimum of 5.5
  • Duolingo English Test - 90 and above

Admission to the MCC English as a Second Language Program:

Choose one from the following:

  • TOEFL - 23 iBT, 97 CBT, or 400 PBT
  • IELTS Indicator - Overall Band score below 5.5
  • Duolingo English Test
  • At least 6 (six) years of English language instruction as shown on school transcript(s)

2. Collect Your Official Transcript(s).

This can be your official high school transcript or certificate of graduation in English.

  • The completion date of secondary education comparable to the U.S. high school must be clearly indicated.
  • Only an original transcript with an English translation by a certified translator is acceptable.

3. Provide Evidence of Financial Support.

In compliance with the Department of Homeland Security/SEVIS regulations, all international applicants on an F-1 student visa must provide evidence of sufficient funds available for their studies. International students at MCC are required to show sponsorship for a minimum of $20,350 per year. The exact cost changes slightly from year to year due to changes in tuition costs.

  • Complete the Evidence of Financial Support form and obtain signatures as needed.
  • Provide an original letter on official bank letterhead showing that the student (if self-supported) or the sponsor has sufficient funds on deposit to cover tuition and living expenses while in the U.S.

NOTE: For the visa process, the American Embassy or Consulate will require another set of original financial documents.

4. Provide a Scanned Photocopy of the Identification Page of Your Current Passport.
