Kingsborough serves a widely diverse population of approximately 14,000 students and consistently ranks among the leading community colleges in the country in associate degrees awarded to minority students. Approximately 70% of Kingsborough's students are enrolled in liberal arts or science degree program; the rest pursue degrees in more specialized, career-oriented programs such as business, communications, criminal justice, culinary arts, nursing, and allied health careers, information technology, journalism, maritime technology, tourism and hospitality, and the visual arts. It also maintains one of the most comprehensive adults and continuing education programs in New York City.

Upon successful completion of the Graphic Design and Illustration degree program requirements, graduates will: to identify the array of career paths available to this and related industries (Overview) be able to conceive a visual solution to a communications problem (Concept) discern between a resolved, well-designed, illustrated, etc., a piece from a poorly designed one (Aesthetics) be able to employ a skill set to transition from an idea into print or digital media (Execution) create effective visual communications that are responsive to the needs of clients and their target audiences (Commercial Applications) create and maintain a professionally presented body of work (Portfolio) be able to critique work using an informed visual vocabulary (Presentation)

Graphic Design and Illustration, A.S.

The Speech Communication Program at Kingsborough Community College is an Associate's degree in Applied Science offered during the day only. This major is jointly registered by the State Education Department for both Kingsborough Community College and Brooklyn College. It is designed to provide KCC students with the opportunity to complete the first two years of course requirements for the Brooklyn College B.A. program in SPEECH COMMUNICATION. We also have agreements with Pace University in Manhattan and Iona College in Westchester.

The Department of Tourism and Hospitality at Kingsborough Community College is dedicated to preparing students for careers and further study in the rapidly evolving tourism and hospitality industry. By encouraging active learning, we provide the opportunity for students to accumulate the knowledge and skills that are necessary for success in the industry. We also seek to empower students as life-long learners by encouraging them to develop portable skills and competencies in research, critical thinking, communication, technology, and un understanding of the world. To that end, we employ a multidisciplinary, student-centered approach that combines both academic and applied components. Ultimately, we serve as a network as well as a resource for industry, offering students and alumni information and contacts to enhance their professional development.
