IMI International Management Institute in Switzerland is a unique, private, hospitality school founded in 1991. Our International Hospitality courses in Hotel, Event and Tourism management at undergraduate level, are all validated by Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK. Our prestigious MBA in International Hospitality Management is also validated by Manchester Met. and is designed for those aiming for senior management positions within the industry. At postgraduate level we also offer our IMI Luzern MBA which allows you to specialise in Swiss Hotel Management Operations or Luxury Brands and Services Management. We have deliberately remained small, with a maximum of 220 students per semester. This way our students can be assured of a highly personalised and individual approach to their learning. All programmes are in English, but you have the option to learn French or German as a second language. The objective of the programme is to give students a sound professional education in the operational management of hospitality and tourism organisations with a particular focus on the management of food and beverages, front office systems and tourism processes. The programme also includes opportunities to acquire fundamental skills in languages, information technology, communication, business planning and self-development.

Requirements for Admission

Minimum 17 years of age High school certificate or equivalent e.g. GCSE O/A Levels Appropriate level of English.

Swiss Degree in International Hospitality Management

This programme is designed to comply with the strict requirements of the Swiss federal government whilst staying true to the values that have made IMI one of the finest hospitality schools in the world today. Combining practical training with academic excellence, we are committed to helping students fulfill their true potential. The degree spans three years and each year consists of one taught semester of 22 weeks followed by a practical training semester also of 22 weeks. IMI trains students in food and beverage, housekeeping and front office as well as preparing them for management roles in the hospitality industry. Students have the opportunity to acquire language skills with professional English, German and French classes running throughout the programme. On completion, students can pursue a BA (Hons) from Manchester Metropolitan University, UK. In line with Swiss federal requirements, all students applying for the Swiss Degree need to have a minimum of 10 months work experience in any field. For those with limited experience, IMI’s Professional Development Year offers a foundation-level introduction to university study as well as a 22-week work placement either in Switzerland or internationally brought to you through our wealth of industry contacts and personalised internships and careers support. The programme's objective is to equip students who have limited or no experience of the hospitality industry with the practical and management skills necessary for entry level positions in hotel, events and related industries. The core focus is operational and integrative management with subjects including food and beverage operations, front office management and the business development of hospitality organisations and events management. Core subjects include Personal Development Planning, Financial Management, Human Resource Management and Food and Beverage Services.
