Founded in 1985, Speos provides higher education photography training aimed at meeting the current market demands.

Next to professional recognition within the domain of photography, Speos is certified by the French government with the Titre de Photographe RNCP level 1 (a professional certification at Master’s level).

Magnum Photos and Speos Photo School are partnering to create a new and unique one-year master class for Creative Documentary & Photojournalism in Paris. [+]

The Creative Documentary & Photojournalism program is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in documentary photography and/or photojournalism, in the Magnum Photos tradition of visual storytelling. The course equips students with the historical and contextual framework required to develop and engage in critical thinking about documentary photography, as well as providing technical guidance and tutorial support to develop students’ individual documentary practice. Students have unique access to Magnum’s photographers and its experienced staff, with elements of the course taught at the Magnum Photos office in central Paris. The formal program is delivered by Speos and its appointed teachers and supplemented by Magnum photographers and staff. The Professional Photography Program is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in photography. [+]

The Professional Photography Program is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in photography. Part I / September to December: The first part comprises the core courses, which cover all aspects of professional photography: photojournalism, studio photography, fashion photography, computer imaging, visual identity, as well as the history of photography. Top-level professionals hold the courses and monitor the students’ individual acquisition of skills. Outside of class, students independently organize their shooting sessions and post-production, with the continual guidance of their supervisors. Part II / January to May: During the second part, the students improve their practical skills and broaden their range of knowledge. Depending on their career choice, they specialize either in studio photography or in photojournalism, and select between several complementary courses and options. The last week of the second part is dedicated to the set-up of the students’ end-of-the-year exhibition on the school premises, an important event visited by established photographers, photo agencies, iconographers and the press. The students also have the possibility to exhibit their work on the web. The Professional Photography Program is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in studio photography. This workshop presents black & white darkroom techniques, using the Stop System (a visual method invented at Speos) to understand and control the printing process. By the end of the week, each participant will be able to judge the quality of a print and produce good black & white pictures. To follow the workshop, a film camera is indispensable. [-]

The Titre de Photographe is designed for students who wish to pursue a career in photography, with a particular emphasis on the business management of the profession. [+]

This program is registered in the Répertoire National des Certifications Professionnelles (RNCP) by decree of December 22th, 2014 — published in the Journal Officiel of December 31st, 2014. It comprises three phases: The Professional Photography in one-year Program, from September to May. The Expert Modules, from the end of May to the end of July (cf. below). The planning and elaboration of the Business Plan, which needs to be submitted to a jury twice: an oral defense of the pre-project allows the students to validate their professional projects’ feasibility and coherence; the final jury’s comments assess the projects’ future implementation. The Titre de Photographe RNCP level I and 7 is also accessible via a VAE procedure (“Validation des Acquis de l’Expérience” — a French procedure by means of which work experience can be translated into educational levels). The Expert Modules aim at deepening the participants’ previous knowledge and skills in those areas that are most demanded by the professional market.
