Introduction

Law Enforcement Professions

SSP 151: Basic Spanish for Law Enforcement Professions

  • Duration: 4 weeks
  • Language: Spanish
  • Offered every month except March, April, May, August, September & December

This course is designed to provide general law enforcement professionals with no previous Spanish experience with the tools necessary for interacting with native Spanish speakers. During this 4-week course, students will work through simulated interactions with Spanish speaking patients to acquire the basic linguistic knowledge and skills that will allow them to comfortably tackle these interactions when they return home.

SSP 251: Intermediate Spanish for Law Enforcement Professions

This course is designed for law enforcement professionals who a minimum of 100 contact hours of Spanish studies. Students will deepen their knowledge of law-related Spanish and increase the competency of communications in specific, simulated situations with native Spanish speakers.

International Business

SPN 204: Intermediate Spanish for International Business

This course is for students with an intermediate level of Spanish who wish to gain a more specialized understanding of different business settings in Latin America. By the end of the course, students will have a general knowledge of specialized business vocabulary in areas of international trade, international marketing. Students will also learn about Latin America resources and strengths for business purposes. Coursework is complemented by field visits to developing businesses.

SPN 304: Advanced Spanish for International Business

This course is for students with an advanced level of Spanish who wish to gain a deeper understanding of Latin America´s business settings. By the end of the course, students will have a general knowledge of key economic industries and some of the main industrial players in each country. Students will also learn about contacts with the different chambers of commerce in Latin America. Coursework is complemented by field visits to developing businesses.

Health Professions

SSP 141: Basic Spanish for Health Professions

This course is designed to provide health care professionals without any previous Spanish experience with the tools necessary for interacting with and interviewing Spanish-speaking patients.

During this four-week course, students will work through simulated interactions with Spanish speaking patients to acquire the basic linguistic knowledge and skills that will allow them to comfortably tackle these interactions when they return home.

SSP 241: Intermediate Spanish for Health Professions

Recreation Professions

SPN 305: Advanced Spanish for Recreation Professions

This course is for intermediate students in study areas of tourism, guides, service providers, recreation and hotel services. Students will develop skills in customer related services, tour management, handling logistics and general hotel and tourism vocabulary. Students practice being tour guide practices and experience about Costa Rica´s tourism development.
