Introduction
Never before has the design + education communities come together in a more electric way! Introducing V School’s User Experience Design Course.
We have literally assembled the founders/creators at some of the best creative agencies in the country, to create a curriculum + teach the design concepts that are leading the industry.
V School’s skill-builder (part-time) course is engineered for the individual within the design or frontend development fields looking to make a switch to UX Design or level-up their overall skills.
As a Designer
You will learn the essentials of wireframing, prototyping, testing and how the UX process fits into the design and development workflow.
As a Developer
You will leave with a solid understanding of how user experience and design inform the structure of great apps. All students will leave with a robust portfolio project including wireframes, user data and a clickable prototype of an interactive project.
About the Instructor: Ryan Potter
Ryan has a BFA in painting and drawing from the University of Utah but where he really makes the magic happen is in the pixels.
Ryan’s been working for over 21 years in interactive design and development. He started as a designer. Then worked as a developer, then as a producer. Ryan’s background gives him the unique perspective of fundamentally understanding each piece of the puzzle that makes up an interactive work of art. He has worked in enterprise software, education, and Internet startups and has seen the success and failure that made the dot com boom. He can code in Python, AS3, C#, PHP, JavaScript, and HTML5/CSS3. Basically, that means he’s a sick interactive Samurai that can do things you didn’t even know were possible. With his eyes closed.
He has created stellar sites for brands like De Beers, Walmart, Nintendo, Sandisk, Sweets Candy, The North Face, Clorox, Adobe, Alltel, Specialized Bikes, Old Spice, General Motors, MINI USA, Ski Utah, Utah Office of Tourism, Nike, Ski Utah, Burton Snowboards, Powder Mountain, Microsoft, Street League, University of Oregon, Rossignol, TBWA/Chiat/Day, The Getty, Ubisoft, Golds GYM, GYM Jones, Adrenaline Lacrosse and Beats by Dre. Perhaps
Ryan’s biggest strength besides growing a perfectly quaffed Leonidus beard is not only being able to do the unthinkable but the ability to explain it simply to us non-genius types. Ryan’s past gigs before launching Contravention, he was a creator of Super top Secret and before that Struck in Salt Lake where he led the interactive charge. If you want to know where else he’s worked send us a self-addressed stamped envelope and we’ll send you the list. We suggest 5 stamps. Ryan’s offline life revolves around his wife and two daughters. For fun he builds custom bobber motorcycles and just in case you are wondering, he is way cooler than you.
Course Syllabus
Ryan Potter will run through the process of what it takes to design an app or site. Going over the user experience in all of its steps. By the end of the course, designers will have a fully rounded knowledge of the practice of user experience.
Because of the nature of part-time classes, students will be given homework assignments that will build on in class learnings through expanding and challenging the mind to see and master UX in everyday settings.
