Subject courses
Track (A) "The EU in Permanent Crises? Perspectives, Challenges, Solutions"
This program deals with the political and societal dynamics of European Integration and with the EU as a unique multi-level political system. The past years have seen the EU facing a lot of criticism from various sides and a plethora of challenges threaten the community - internally and externally - and what held its societies together for a long time. Hence, courses cover the current challenges Europe and the EU face today: Brexit and the rise of nationalism; political fragmentation and radicalization; migration, religion, and questions of identity; conspiracy theories and misinformation; and war.
Track (B) "Social and Artificial Intelligence in Europe Today"
Against the backdrop of the increasing importance of environmental hazards, social media and artificial intelligence (AI) today, this program deals with two main questions: what constitutes good societies in Europe (and elsewhere) in the 21st century and how can we protect our communities from breaking apart due to increasing environmental and technological pressure? Classes introduce concepts and ideas that can inspire civic engagement at the local level in favour of different forms of more sustainable and inclusive relationships that bolster strong human communities. Furthermore, participants will analyse possible AI-induced mis- and disinformation which threaten solidarity among the various groups of modern societies in Europe today.
