Introduction
Proton therapy uses high-energy accelerated proton beams, which are directed with pinpoint precision against the tumor, where they deposit most of their energy. This concentrated delivery of energy to the tumor minimizes dose to surrounding tissues and reduces the risk of secondary tumor development, critical in young and pediatric patients. It is a booming technology. This course is organized in collaboration with the Quirón Salud Proton Therapy Center, a pioneer center in this technology in Spain.
Goals
The objective of the course is to teach the principles for the design, implantation and management of a new proton therapy installation, from the physical design and engineering, to the complete cycle of planning and treatment of a patient. At the end of the course, graduates will be able to learn the necessary procedures to address the different stages of establishing and starting up a proton therapy center.
