Introduction
Neurorehabilitation is understood as the process aimed at reducing impairment, activity limitation and participation restriction suffered by people as a consequence of a neurological disease, and where the professionals involved in said field will aim to reduce the degree of of functional impairment of the patient.
It must be understood as an educational and dynamic process, based on the adaptation of the individual and their environment to neurological deterioration. Within it, Physiotherapy in the person with neurological pathology will be in charge of the prevention, identification, evaluation, treatment and follow-up of those deficiencies that can cause alterations in the structures and functions of the individual, limitations in the activity and restrictions in the participation as consequence of a disease of neurological origin.
The different treatment methodologies from the point of view of Physiotherapy in the care of neurological patients will aim to provide the key elements of an adequate neurorehabilitation program, such as the possibility of offering treatments oriented towards function, repetition, reaching a adequate intensity over time, through techniques, methodologies, interfaces or motivating systems that provide feedback on the results achieved.
The prevalence and incidence of neurological diseases in Spain and the disability they cause justify the need for physiotherapy treatment. In this sense, there are a diversity of intervention techniques and procedures in the neurological patient from Physiotherapy, classified into those intended for the care of the child population and the adult subject.
This Expert Course in Neurological Physiotherapy intends to organize, demonstrate and transmit each of the intervention methodologies in this field of action, from a theoretical-practical perspective, updated, critical from the point of view of scientific evidence, in order to cover the professional needs of the physiotherapists involved in this area of knowledge.
