University Carlos III of Madrid was established by an Act of the Spanish Parliament on 5 May 1989, within the framework of the University Reform Act of 1983. From the outset it was intended to be a relatively small, innovative, public university, providing teaching of the highest quality and focused primarily on research.

History

UC3M was established by an Act of the Spanish Parliament on 5 May 1989, within the framework of the University Reform Act of 1983. From the outset it was intended to be a relatively small, innovative, public university, providing teaching of the highest quality and focused primarily on research. Our first Chancellor was Professor Gregorio Peces-Barba.

Mission

UC3M´s mission is to contribute to the improvement of society through teaching of the highest quality and cutting-edge research in line with stringent international guidelines. The University aspires to excellence in all its activities, to become one of the top universities in Europe.

Getafe Campus

Located in the town of Getafe to the south of Madrid, this campus has two schools: the School of Social Science and Law, and the School of Humanities. The modern campus installations include two libraries, computer rooms in various buildings, audiovisual rooms, recording studios, courtrooms, wifi throughout the campus, and sports centers with facilities for basketball, tennis, squash, beach volleyball, and sauna, among others

Leganés Campus

Located in the town of Leganés, to the south of Madrid, this campus houses the School of Engineering. Its modern installations include the library, computer rooms in various buildings, laboratories, wifi throughout the campus, and a sports center with an indoor swimming pool. There is also an Auditorium where plays, opera, and concerts are performed throughout the year

Colmenarejo Campus

Located in the town of Colmenarejo, to the northeast of Madrid, the campus has three schools: the School of Social Science and Law, the School of Humanities, and the School of Engineering. Its modern installations include a library, work, study, and research rooms, and a journal library, among others.

Madrid-Puerta de Toledo Campus

The Madrid-Puerta de Toledo campus, located in the heart of Madrid, is the main venue for the UC3M Center of Postgraduate Studies (University Master’s programs and professional training and development), as well as scientific and cultural activities geared toward the public. The Campus is equipped with state-of-the-art facilities, among which we can highlight its library, multimedia rooms, Conference Hall, workspaces with Wi-Fi, and Auditorium with its wide array of technical equipment. The campus facilities and location make it an ideal spot for holding all types of cultural or scientific activities.

    EU, EEA, or Switzerland

    If you come from an EU or EEA country or Switzerland:

    You do not need a visa; you just need to register at the Central Register of Foreign Nationals if you will stay for longer than 3 months.

    NON-EU

    If you come from third countries:

    You need to request a study visa at the Diplomatic Mission or Spanish consular post of your country of residence.

    If you will stay for longer than 6 months, you have a period of 1 month since your arrival in Spain to request the Foreign National Identity Card (TIE) at the Foreign Nationals Office or national police force station near your place of residence in Spain.

    You must hand in your application in person, fill in the appropriate form, and provide the following documentation:

    • Admission letter. When you pay for your reservation, we will send you by email a document electronically signed by the University that specifies the master's course you have enrolled in, its cost, duration, syllabus, etc.
    • Valid Passport or travel document.
    • Proof of economic means to pay your living costs and the cost of returning home, and, if appropriate, those of your relatives.
    • Health insurance, public or private, agreed with an insurance company authorized to operate in Spain.
    • Payment receipt of the handling fee.

    If your course is longer than 6 months, you will also need to provide:

    • Medical certificate
    • Criminal record certificate

    In the European Area of Higher Education, Program Quality Assurance forms part of the Study Plans, aimed at creating a climate of confidence and trust in the Program. At the same time, it ensures that students acquire the programmed knowledge and professional competencies for each Degree Program.

    UC3M was one of the first universities to understand the need to incorporate a system for monitoring quality. Currently, it uses the Internal Quality Assurance System (Sistema de Garantía Interna de Calidad-SGIC- UC3M), whose design was certified by ANECA in 2009, by the AUDIT Program criteria and guidelines.
