Introduction
Our Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies allows you to choose what master’s-level courses you need in order to strengthen your ministry. And since it is available at our Deerfield campus, entirely online, and through our extension sites, you gain another layer of flexibility. You may be a leader who wants to grow in your teaching ability, or at a career transition and wondering about going into ministry. Or you may want to improve at what you’re already doing. Whatever work you’ve been given, our Certificate program can help you do it better. TEDS is known for its world-class faculty who will instruct and interact with you throughout your program of study.
The Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies is 12 credit hours which consists of 2 hours of Biblical Studies, 2 hours of Theological Studies, and 8 hours of Electives. An admissions counselor will help you customize a unique program of courses to fit your interests.
Program delivery
The Certificate program is flexible and convenient. You can choose to take courses on our Deerfield campus, through TEDS online courses, or at an approved extension site.

Curriculum
There are no specifically required courses to complete the Certificate. However, Certificate students are required to fulfill the following minimal requirements:
- Biblical Studies (2 Hours)
- Theological Studies (2 Hours)
- Electives (8 Hours)
Program Outcome
Purposes of the Certificate
The Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies is intended for people involved in lay and parachurch ministry and leadership who feel the need to strengthen their skills and knowledge base in a specific area of study or across the theological curriculum. Students who pursue and have completed the Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies may wish to continue their studies and apply to the MA (Theological Studies) program. Any coursework completed under the Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies is applicable to the MA (Theological Studies) program as well.
Scholarships and Funding
For the 2022-23 academic year, 100% of incoming TEDS students received scholarships! Additionally, US resident students who completed the FAFSA also had access to federal student loans and federal work-study. You will automatically be considered for the following scholarships as soon as you submit your application to TEDS.

Available for new students enrolling in 2024. Start your academic journey in any of our MA programs, including the MDIV, MA in Theological Studies, MA in Mental Health Counseling, or MA in Bioethics with a 20% tuition grant, renewable throughout your entire course of study.
