Introduction
Institute of Workplace and Facilities Management Level 4 Award and Certificate
Introduction
The College has an extensive track record in this field and provides the course through a team who have a considerable subject, educational and industrial expertise.
The Level 4 programme is intended for those aspiring to become facilities managers or those in middle management with little FM experience and who wish to enhance their specialist and management skills. A degree is not needed to get started in FM. Level 4 makes it easy to start in FM regardless of one’s background. Learners may be working in front of house or in a hotel job and encouraged to train in FM to acquire more skills. There are plenty of opportunities in FM – everything from shopping centres to hospitals and even skyscrapers.
Delivery
Teaching of all units for the Award and Certificate will be completed over a 6 month period. Classes are held on Tuesday evenings from 5.30pm - 8.30pm. There are lectures and tutorial sessions as well as email support in the programme. The course for the certificate programme includes 4 units making up a total of 24 credits. See table below. Whilst documentation will be provided, learners should purchase books as recommended by the tutors.
Carry over and Exceptions
There is a choice of taking the Award or Certificate then upgrade to level 5. We are not running the level 4 Diploma, because once a learner has achieved at least two units at level 4 to qualify for the Award, or four units to qualify for the Certificate, an opportunity exists to switch to Level 5 Award/Certificate/Diploma. After 21 years of experience in delivering BIFM courses, the college has found that most FM’s recognise Level 5 Diploma as the choice qualification. The level 4 route provides a sound foundation of initial learning, for which 6 credits can be transferred to the level 5 Certificate/Diploma.
Study
Learners may need to develop new skills, such as analysis, communication and a range of presentation methods. The tutorials will focus on both subject information and skills necessary to support the assessments. Attending all the college sessions will generally not be adequate for individuals to complete the programme or units. Learners must expect to frequently allocate a significant amount of their own time in order to research, prepare, edit, finalise and submit assignments in order to be successful.
