This course normally requires you to have completed the New Zealand Diploma in Information Systems Level 5 to be eligible for this course. Previous work or study experience may be considered.

Software developers identify themselves as craftsmen and artisans, in an engineering, technical-problem-solving sense. Developers are highly competent, driven by technical achievement, and sceptical of everything.

There are no mandatory prerequisites for the Diploma in Software Development; however, learners enrolling are recommended to hold one of the following qualifications: NZQA Level 5 Diploma in Information Systems or any other IT Diploma with core subjects in Digital Technologies; Applicants must be 18 years or older; International students must have an appropriate level of English proficiency for the level at which they intend to study – IELTS Academic score of 6, with no band score lower than 5.5.

Graduates of this qualification may progress to a computing degree or specialized qualification such as software testing or software security. This qualification may also equip learners to attempt optional industry certifications at the appropriate level and area of speciality.
