Introduction

The Automotive Technology (AT) program boasts a prestigious master certification from the Automotive Service Excellence Education (ASE). Recognized as a trailblazer in automotive education, the program has clinched the top spot with the esteemed “Award for Excellence” and holds the title of the nation’s premier college independent automotive program.

Geared towards equipping students for thriving careers in the automotive industry, the competency-based Automotive Technology program is fortified by its ASE Education Foundation accreditation. This accreditation ensures that students benefit from top-notch instructors and facilities that adhere to stringent national standards, paving the way for graduates to secure outstanding job placements in their chosen automotive careers. Given the rapid evolution of automotive technology, there is a growing demand for highly skilled technicians, and the program positions its graduates for success in various sectors, including new vehicle dealerships and independent repair facilities.

The Automotive Technology program distinguishes itself by seamlessly blending theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience over six comprehensive quarters of instruction. In a state-of-the-art workshop, students hone their diagnostic and repair skills on late-model vehicles. The curriculum spans an array of subjects, encompassing brake and suspension systems, electrical/electronic systems, automatic and manual transmissions, heating and air conditioning, engines, engine performance, light-duty diesel, engine machining, and cutting-edge hybrid-electric/electric vehicles.

Degree Intent and Transfer Options

Upon completion, Workforce degrees and/or certificates are intended to give students the skills needed to move directly into employment. While these degrees are not intended to transfer to a university, students will be eligible to apply for admission to Skagit Valley College’s Bachelor of Applied Science - Management (BASM) degree or SVC’s Environmental Conservation, BAS (BAS-EC) and, in some cases, could transfer to other schools. If you are interested in continuing your education by entering a bachelor’s degree program, please work closely with your Academic Advisor and Department Chair.
