English as a Second Language Program

SAU-ESL is a program at Southern Arkansas University that prepares students with a low level of English for full participation in the university degree programs.

Why SAU-ESL?

• Located on the beautiful campus of Southern Arkansas University (SAU)
• All ESL students are full-time SAU students with full access to all university facilities and services (gym, swimming pool, cafeteria, health services, library, student clubs)
• 18 hours of instruction per week across 5 different levels
• Students of all levels and ages are welcome to apply
• Professional and friendly instructors with a command of one or more foreign languages

• January 5, 2018 - placement test and ESL student orientation

• January 8-9, 2018 - class registration

• January 10, 2018 - classes begin

• March 2, 2018 - midterm tests & grades

• March 19, 2018 – March 25, 2018 - Spring break

• May 3, 2018 - end-of-semester progress test, exit test

• May 4, 2018 - semester ends

Summer 2018 (application deadline is May 13, 2018)

• May 29, 2018 - placement test, ESL student orientation, class registration

• May 30, 2018 - classes begin

• June 27, 2018 - end-of-level progress test, exit test

• June 28, 2018 - summer session ends

Fall 2018 (application deadline is August 12, 2018)

• August 20, 2018 - placement test and ESL student orientation

• August 20-21, 2018 - class registration

• August 22, 2018 - classes begin

• October 12, 2018 - midterm tests & grades

• November 21, 2018 – November 25, 2018 - Thanksgiving break

• December 6, 2018 - end-of-semester progress test, exit test

• December 7, 2018 - semester ends

Costs and Funding

• Fall/Spring semester: $2,925*

• Summer intensive course: $1,755*

*Additional information:

• Payments can be made in monthly installments. If you choose to pay in installments, you must do it through your SAU online account only.

• Accommodation, food, health insurance, student fees, and books are not included.

• ESL students are eligible for affordable accommodation on campus or may find their own accommodation off campus.

• Full-time ESL students are allowed to work on campus and apply for a Social Security Number (SSN).

• ESL students are allowed to apply for scholarships upon completion of the ESL program.
