Introduction
A national diploma in industrial design taught in English and organized in 2 years.
This program, organized in two years, offers a specialization in the fields of industrial design. Product design is a design activity concerning consumer goods (household appliances, cars, furniture, packaging, homeware, etc), as well as capital goods (professional equipment, tools, public transport, street furniture, etc.), whether they are manufactured on an industrial scale or by craft production. Open to students from all over the world who have completed a minimum of one year in Product Design are eligible to apply.
The DN MADE, a national diploma in fine crafts and design, is a state-recognized degree leading to the award of a bachelor's degree after three years of studies. Its purpose is also to welcome students from our partner schools for an academic exchange semester. The program is taught in English. Students from all over the world who have completed a minimum of one year in Product Design and are eligible to apply.
Curriculum
The program is organized around 3 poles distributed during the 2 years of the program:
General Lessons
- Humanities (Philosophy and Human Sciences, literature).
- Culture of arts, design, and techniques.
Cross-disciplinary Lessons
- Methodologies, techniques, and modern languages, with also a module on the economic and legal contexts.
Practical Lessons
- Creative workshops, professionalization.
Microprojects lead students to discover the different phases of a design project and allow them to acquire methodological tools and technical and creative know-how.
- DN MADE 2: 970 hours
- DN MADE 3: 860 hours
ECTS credits: 60 credits per year
The European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System (ECTS) is a points system developed by the European Union to facilitate the mobility of students in Europe.
Admission Requirements
For non-exchange students
- Full year program.
You may apply for the two-year undergraduate program taught in English DN MADE if you have completed a minimum of 1 year of undergraduate studies or validated 60 ECTS in product design.
It is possible to apply before actually having completed the required level of studies or ECTS. However, admission will only take effect once the degree is obtained or the credits have been validated.
Once accepted, students remain eligible for registration for one year.
Language Requirements
English
All classes and workshops are conducted in English. Therefore, a basic command of this language is recommended.
If you are not a native English speaker, we ask that you provide proof of your English proficiency (with a certificate such as TOEIC, TOEFL, Cambridge). If you are not in possession of such a certificate, you may take an oral assessment by telephone or Skype with a professor from L’École de design.
We require no minimum level of English to apply. However, it is highly recommended that applicants have a good level of English (CEFR B2 if possible) for the following reasons:
- These undergraduate courses are taught in English;
- You must obtain 780 points at the TOEIC test are requested to obtain the DN MADE degree;
- If you wish to continue your studies at the postgraduate level in one of the Master programs taught in English, you must be able to follow the courses and write your thesis in English;
- If you wish to continue your studies at the postgraduate level, you must obtain a minimum level of 800 points at the TOEIC test (the equivalent of IELTS 5.5,TOEFL iBT 80 points, Cambridge FCE, CPE or CAE, Bulats 60 points) in order to be granted the Master’s Degree in Design from L’École de design Nantes Atlantique (Diplôme de design bac+5).
French
While not mandatory for the International DN MADE, a certain command of the French language is recommended for daily life in France and integration purposes. You can provide any certificate of French language you may already have or you can indicate your current level of French using the CEFR self-assessment grid.
However, students wishing to continue their studies at the master’s level in one of the programs taught in French will need a good command of both spoken and written French.
Applications Procedure
The selection of applicants is done based on their registration form, application file, portfolio, and interview.
- How? The application can only be done online.
- When? Application for the academic year 2020/2021 will open on November 2019.
- How much does it cost? Once you have filled out your personal data, you will be required to pay a non-refundable inscription fee of 50€ to cover the administrative costs of your admission process. This payment is only possible by credit card or Paypal and is fully secured.
The selection process is organized as follow:
- Online application, payment of the application fees, and uploading all the required documents for application;
- Application file review;
- If your application is accepted: an invitation to an interview during which you will have to present your portfolio. If you do not reside in France, this interview may be done by telephone or Skype;
