Introduction
The world of business management is an exciting, fast-paced and dynamic place to spend your career. At Gateway, Business Management students will learn how the business world functions from a marketing, financial and organizational point of view. In the fast-paced business world, keeping up requires a manager to be knowledgeable in a variety of subjects. A Business Management degree will help set graduates apart from other employees; better preparing them to advance into management roles. Gateway’s Business Management courses are tailored by a business advisory committee, which is comprised of professionals in the regional job market. Therefore, classes address the most current trends in business today. Students will also benefit from Business Management instructors who are seasoned professionals -- many have more than 20 years of experience in the field.
Business Management is designed to provide a broad background in management theory, human resource management and behavior, accounting, marketing, and business decision-making. Students learn how to effectively plan, organize, direct, and evaluate business functions essential to efficient and productive business organizations. Graduates will have the business knowledge and skills to prepare them for a management trainee, assistant, manager, or team leader position in a wide cross-section of business, government, and not-for-profit sectors of our economy.
All Business and Information Technology Associate Degree programs are fully accredited and in good standing with the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs.
Learning By Doing
The Business Management program at Gateway offers an opportunity for hands-on learning through case studies, professional internships, and the Biz Squad program. In many cases, internships can be carried out with a student’s current employer - a great opportunity to learn and highlight your skills to your employer.
Biz Squad is a hands-on learning opportunity where students get to work with real-world clients on actual projects, gaining experience in the field. Involvement also provides great networking opportunities. Biz Squad is offered at the Kenosha, Racine and Elkhorn Campuses.
Many Business Management courses are offered online to fit easily with busy schedules. Some classes may be offered in IPVID format, allowing students to attend a class at a different campus, through advanced telecommunication technology.
Gateway also offers hands-on learning and networking opportunities through involvement in professional organizations like Collegiate DECA, Business Professionals of America and community service organizations. Membership allows for involvement in local, state and international competitions. Service learning opportunities are also part of the program curriculum. Students will serve the community at area food shelters, animal sanctuaries, government agencies and non-profit organizations putting the skills they have learned into practice through service.
The Business Management program offers unique opportunities to study abroad. A recent trip included travel to Hong Kong and mainland China to study Asian marketing, human resources, supply chain management, import/export challenges, foreign currency exchange issues, and cultural differences.
