The English Language and Intercultural Center (ELIC) at Oklahoma State University empowers non-native English speakers with the academic English proficiency and intercultural skills needed for success in U.S. higher education and beyond. Our comprehensive programs support diverse learners, including international students, professionals, and those seeking personal or career advancement.

The ELIC curriculum emphasizes practical application, communicative competence, and cultural engagement, offering courses tailored to various proficiency levels. Our intensive Academic English track consists of Academic Literacy (focused on academic reading and writing), Academic Interactions (focused on speaking and listening), and University Immersions (integrated skills). Each course is designed for a 16-week semester, with 8-week options available during summer sessions to accommodate student needs. Weekly cultural excursions and service-learning activities further enhance students’ understanding of U.S. culture and promote intercultural communication skills.

In addition to the Academic English track, we offer specialized classes in business communication, TOEFL and IELTS preparation, and customizable short-term programs for sponsored groups. ELIC’s faculty includes highly qualified instructors with extensive training in English as a second language, who continually refine their skills through ongoing professional development. Through interactive teaching methods, technology integration, and individualized feedback, our faculty fosters a supportive learning environment that builds students’ confidence and language skills.

As an outreach unit within OSU Global, ELIC is committed to promoting intercultural awareness and global citizenship through diverse programming, workshops, and social events that encourage meaningful connections between international and domestic students. ELIC provides a well-rounded educational experience, preparing students to excel in their academic, personal, and professional goals while fostering an inclusive, culturally enriched campus community.
