Introduction

Our Study Abroad Program invites international students to apply to study here for one or two semesters. Successful completion of units can count towards your home institution degree.

If your home university doesn't have an exchange agreement with ECU or is unable to offer you an exchange place here, you can apply as a study abroad student.

Why study overseas?

The overseas study allows you to travel while gaining degree credits and provides opportunities for personal growth.

It also looks great on a résumé and may give you a competitive edge in the job market.

What can you study with us?

ECU has hundreds of units to choose from as part of your Study Abroad semester with us. But don’t worry, we can help you choose units that give you a great price and workload. The information below will help you get started.

Study areas

We recommend you seek advice from your university’s International Office about how to study at ECU will be credited to your home institution degree.

  • ECU units are usually worth 15 credit points. Students have the option of choosing a 3-unit or 4-unit study program.
  • You can choose units at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels across ECU’s eight study areas.

Arts & Humanities

Communication is fundamental to human existence - we need to understand how people communicate with each other, both verbally and visually.

From understanding language to understanding politics and even understanding mindsets, communication is also a major theme at ECU.

Here, you can study courses as diverse as Media and Communication, Criminology, or Design. Or choose from Psychology, Arts or Counselling courses.

Business & Law

We were the first university school in Australia to teach employability skills in a specially-designed program, now part of our Bachelor of Commerce course. We introduced the first professionally-accredited online Law degree in Western Australia. And we're the only WA university offering courses like the Bachelor of International Hotel & Resort Management and the Master of Marketing and Innovation Management.

So if you aspire to be an Accountant, Lawyer, Hotel Manager, HR Manager, Project Manager or even an Entrepreneur, this is your study area.

Engineering & Technology

Our School of Engineering is one of the fastest-growing engineering schools in Australia and in the world's top 175. It's a place where you'll experience world-class engineering facilities in a supportive learning environment.

And you'll gain valuable practical experience in our advanced labs and workshops and during an industry placement of up to 12 weeks.

Medical & Health Sciences

Nothing is more important than our health. Without good health, we fail to function as human beings, let alone achieve anything like peak performance.

Health is important to us at ECU too. Here, you can study a Science degree in areas as diverse as Biomedical Science, Exercise and Sports Science, or Paramedical Science. Or choose other health-related courses like Nutrition and Dietetics, Occupational Therapy, or Speech Pathology.

Nursing & Midwifery

ECU has the only Bachelor of Nursing & Bachelor of Midwifery double degree in Western Australia and our nursing courses include flexible online study options.

We also have facilities that are the envy of other universities, with demonstration wards that are as close as you can get to the real thing – until you start your practical work in one of Western Australia's major hospitals.

If the idea of a career in nursing or midwifery gets your pulse racing, look no further than ECU.

Science

Science is in everything. Without science, you wouldn't be reading this on your tablet or smartphone. A tablet would still be a flat piece of rock, and we wouldn't have been smart enough to invent the phone.

Science is in everything at ECU too. Here, you can study a Bachelor of Science degree and specialise in areas as diverse as Conservation Biology, Cyber Security or Physics. Or how about Marine and Freshwater Biology, Mathematics or Counter Terrorism?

You can see why Science graduates have a wide range of work choices.

Teacher Education

We're also WA's most popular school, graduating more professional educators than any other institution in the state.

Our bachelor of education degrees include a bachelor of early childhood education, bachelor of primary education and bachelor of secondary education.

And we have the widest range of Secondary teaching specialisations of all Western Australian universities.

ECU graduates have dominated the WA Education Awards in recent years, winning Early Childhood, Primary and Secondary Teacher of the Year, as well as Primary and Secondary Principals of the Year.

Western Australia Academy of Performing Arts

The Western Australian Academy of Performing Arts, or WAAPA, is recognised nationally and internationally for the quality of its graduates. Our performing arts training encompasses both on-stage and behind the scenes skills development. Entry into WAAPA courses is competitive, and you'll need to undertake an audition and/or an interview as part of your application.
