Introduction
What does this course involve?
This Study Programme allows you to learn about electrical, electronic or mechanical engineering – all key growth areas in the UK. Engineers shape the world; from developing new mobile phone technology to designing buildings and making components for aircraft, the career opportunities are endless. You’ll learn theory and practical skills, and all of our courses can lead to employment or higher education.
You’ll learn practical skills needed within the engineering environment, with a focus on electronic and mechanical disciplines. Units covered will include: engineering and environmental health and safety, engineering organisational efficiency and improvement, computer numerical control, programmable logic controllers (PLCs), maintenance of pneumatic systems and components, engineering science, digital electronics and advanced milling.
Our fully fitted workshops are equipped with up-to-date technology replicating industry, allowing us to provide hands-on practical experience within the engineering sector; this combined with professional industry-trained teaching staff ensures high success rates and multiple progression routes.
As a Level 3 Engineering student at Broadstairs College, you will benefit from an affiliated associate membership with the Institution of Mechanical Engineers. You can look forward to the opportunity to take part in inter-college skills competitions at local and national level and the chance of work experience with leading community partners such as Cummins and Emco Wheaton.
What qualifications do I need?
4 Cs or 4s including English at Level 4 and maths at Level 5.
Asssessment
Delivery is by practical demonstration and assessment. You will be assessed via written coursework and assignments. There are course-specific unit assignments which are internally assessed, with an end-of-course online exam based on the mandatory units.
Progression
On successful completion you could progress onto our HNC programme or a higher level Apprenticeship. Alternatively, you could progress into one of the many engineering careers.
