Introduction

Students who complete an Associate in Science Degree in Accounting are prepared for employment as accounting paraprofessionals in professional accounting occupations that require analysis, theory and design of accounting procedures and applications.

The program content provides training in the principles, procedures and theories of organizing, maintaining and evaluating business and financial transactions as well as the preparation of accompanying financial records and reports for internal and external use. The pros of choosing the accounting career path are:

1) A clear career path. If number crunching and analysis interest you then accounting provides that opportunity.

2) Potential for growth. Most accountants progress rapidly in rank from their entry-level positions.

3) High Demand. As long as there are businesses and taxes, there will be a need for your skills.

4) Salary. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the median salary of an accountant in 2012 as $63,550. Though this isn’t entry-level pay, it is certainly an attainable goal.

5) Mobility. Accountants are in demand all over the world. If your passion is travel, you can combine this with your occupation.

6) Diverse Career Areas. Choose from tax, financial, managerial, or auditing. Within those four areas, exist a multitude of career opportunities.

Graduates of this program are eligible to enroll in a four year degree program in accounting or enroll in the College of Central Florida, Bachelor of Applied Science in Business and Organizational Management program.
