Introduction
The Normal School of the State of San Luis Potosí was created by DECREE No.41 issued by the Constitutional Governor of the State, on March 31 of the same year, which ordered in its article, the "establishment of a Normal School for teachers of both genders".
The inauguration of the campus was held on March 4, 1849 in the Lancasteriana Principal School building, located on the west side of the Plaza de las Colecciones, today Jardin Vallejo. Its first director was Professor Don Pedro Vallejo, originally from the state of Guanajuato, and its first students thirteen young people from various parts of the State.
The organization that the School had during the first years of life, was of the Lancasterian type, so from 1857 the way was sought to reform the Education Regulations in the State, which was issued until 1863, and in which four teacher orders, with a specific Study Plan for each one.
In 1868 a Normal School for young women was founded, with the same study plan as that for boys, under the direction of Professor Josefa Negrete, the first teacher to graduate from our Normal School. This was done despite the fact that Article 1 of the founding decree of the institution clearly stated that it would be for both sexes.
In 1912 the Normal Schools merged with the Scientific and Literary Institute (today the Autonomous University of Potosina), a union that lasts only two years. As of 1914, and again following an independent institutional life, the Normal School of the State extends its activities in various buildings, in which it continues to plant its foundation of work and progress. In 1922 to occupy the premises that were outside the Conciliar Seminary (Francisco I. Madero street), which served as their home until October 1950. In this same year a building for the exclusive use of the Normal School was completed, thanks to the great effort of the then highest authorities of the Campus; Director Professor Vicente Rivera and Secretary Professor Jesús R. Alderete. This place is located at Calle de Nicolás Zapata No.200, and in it the activities of the Normal School have been carried out since 1951.
