Wax Carving Practice and Casting Theory

Program Description

During this course in wax carving practice and casting theory for jewelry, you will be introduced to a range of carving techniques and casting knowledge. You will gain first-hand experience of wax carving as applied by jewelers and will be supported with the creation of a bracelet link suitable for casting.

  • Understanding types of wax
  • Preparing wax for carving
  • Carving techniques
  • Preparing and finishing wax for casting
  • Casting theory
  • Understanding shrinkage
  • Understanding surface defects in castings

Level: Beginners

Entry Requirements: None

Materials to be brought to course:

  • Sketchbook
  • Pencils
  • Eraser

Dress code:

  • Hairband (if you have long hair)
  • Sensible footwear (no open toe sandals)
  • Sensible clothing (no skirts or dresses, clothing to protect your skin in the workshop)

Course Dates: July 30 – Aug 3, 2018,10:00 – 17:00

Fee: £600 – new learners

Qualification

Successful completion of this course earns the student a British Academy of Jewellery Official Certificate of Completion.
