The course is held in Toledo, the ancient capital of Spain, a World Heritage city since 1986 where the Three Cultures coexisted (Christian, Muslim and Jewish), soaked by El Greco, Cervantes, Garcilaso and Bécquer, offering a cultural offer, literary, artistic and fantastic gastronomic. Only 30 minutes by train from the center of Madrid.
Duration and schedule
From July 8 to 26, 2019. Three-week course (60 theoretical-practical hours).
The program covers the stay in the university residence from July 7 to the morning of July 27 (full board). Participants will not be able to arrive at the university residence before July 7 and will have to leave their room on July 27.
On July 8 the orientation session will take place and the classes will begin that same day. The last day of class will be on July 26.
Classes will be given in the morning and possibly in some afternoons. Complementary activities will be carried out, in some cases, in the afternoon.
Number of participants per group
Minimum of eight participants per group, maximum twenty-five.
The José Ortega y Gasset-Gregorio Marañón Foundation reserves the right to cancel the course if the minimum number of participants is not met.
Complementary activities (included in the program)
- A day trip to a place of cultural interest.
- Historical-artistic tour through the city of Toledo.
- Museum visits.
Lodging and maintenance
The participants will have a room for individual use in a residence, with shared bathrooms. The residence provides the bed linen and towels.
Stay in full board. The residence can cater for people with certain special diets whenever they consult with the Ortega-Marañón Foundation.
No escorts are allowed in the residence.
Valid throughout the duration of the program throughout the Spanish territory and in the European Union. It covers medical consultations and hospitalization. Odontological treatments and medicines are excluded, except in the case of hospitalization. Does not include transportation to the hospital or medical consultation.
The José Ortega y Gasset-Gregorio Marañón Foundation awards a diploma and certificate of attendance to all participants who have attended ninety percent (90%) of all scheduled classes.
The course is specially designed for teachers of Spanish as a foreign language, professors of bilingual, immersion and Spanish programs for Spanish speakers, Grades K-12 and teachers of Community College.
It is aimed at teachers of Spanish with intermediate and advanced levels of Spanish language.
Deepen in various aspects of knowledge and use of the Spanish language.
Develop strategies for the teaching of the Spanish language and culture through literature, film, theater and plastic arts.
To share didactic and professional experiences in Madrid, a city with a wide cultural and artistic offer, which includes some of the best museums in the world.
Achieve a complete linguistic and cultural immersion in 21st century Spain.
- Culture in 21st century Spain (20 hours)
Deepening knowledge of current Spanish society and culture through literature, film, theater and plastic arts.
- Pedagogical grammar of Spanish (20 hours)
Presentation and analysis of problematic aspects of the Spanish language for American students, with special emphasis on methodological application.
- Language and Culture in the Spanish classroom (20 hours)
Proposals and analysis of didactic materials for the teaching of Spanish elaborated from the plastic arts, literature, theater and cinema. Includes a pronunciation teaching workshop.
All participants will have to perform various tasks in which they put into practice the new perspectives for teaching Spanish studied in the course.
Participants who wish to request the accreditation of the course must submit a specific work.
