About

The activity will consist of twelve lectures. Each lecture will cover a topic contained in a standard Nuclear Physics textbook extended to show how our understanding has deeply changed due to the experience accumulated in the last decades. In particular, we shall concentrate on aspects related to recent progress driven by research with radioactive beams (RIBs), ab-initio structure model and modern nucleon-nucleon interactions, nuclear matter studies and applications of astrophysical and practical interest.

In order to give the activity a fully international character and because we aim at favoring the participation of really young students, the first half day we will propose some introductory lectures given in separated sessions in different languages.... [-]

About

Science, technology and related expertise have taken an increasingly prominent role in society. Public unease with and controversy over the way science and technology progress and expertise is applied to address societal needs, expectations and demands have however grown proportionally. Institutions such as the European Union have recognized this as a major question, leading to what has been sometimes depicted as a crisis of trust in science and, more recently, a crisis of rationality in addressing public issues. A number of theoretical frameworks and approaches have been developed over the years. Though these may differ considerably as to how the origin of the problem is diagnosed and the answer is conceived, there is a widespread agreement that any simplistic view of the interface between science and society is to be abandoned, and that more inclusive approaches have to be worked out.... About

By consequence of the success of the first two Editions in Pisa (2016 and 2017), with the participation of about 120 students coming from all around the world, as well as of the 2018 Edition hold in Lithuania, with the involvement of the School's founders as teachers, the Department of Political Science of the University of Pisa is realizing the IV International Summer School on Grounded Theory and Qualitative Methods.

The Summer School is an intensive 5-day course (with morning and afternoon sessions), where exercises and workgroups alternate with lectures. Qualitative researchers often experience common problems such as getting lost after collecting and coding data, overlooking possibilities for developing their ideas, and producing disjointed and mundane reports. Grounded Theory methods help you expedite analyzing data and writing a report. This Summer School focuses on improving skills in using Grounded Theory strategies to help you increase the incisiveness, clarity, and creativity of your work. These school will help you retain the flexibility of Grounded Theory while furthering the conceptual depth and scope of your analysis.... [-]

About

Auditors need to develop and improve their ability to analyze changes, to address the related risks and challenges and to continuously adapt their audit methods and approaches. To do so, it is essential for audit institutions to develop a mutually beneficial relationship with academic researchers. In other terms, the audit profession and research must advance hand in hand. To reach this goal the University of Pisa and the European Court of Auditors (ECA), the EU’s independent external auditor, have set up and jointly organized a Summer School in public auditing and accountability

Aim

The School is a new learning opportunity for professional auditors (in both the private and public sectors), for students and scholars as well as for other civil servants and professionals to keep up to date on the latest trends and developments in this evolving field. In line with the ECA’s strategy, the School will open a structured dialogue with the academic world, provide additional opportunities for high quality training, facilitate knowledge exchange between practitioners and researchers and – last but not least – can provide a platform for study, discussion and information exchange on auditrelated issues.... The Summer School is a Landscape Design Workshop, aimed at investigating the complex relationships between the built environment and the water, in its broadest meaning of environmental resource, and therefore including seaside, rivers, lakes and water resources. Students will be engaged in the development of a project on a Tuscan case study, with the support of teachers and tutors of the University of Pisa and visiting professors of other national and international universities. The Summer School is organized in two parts. The first part is primarily aimed at the critical reading and knowledge of the area chosen as a case study, in order to identify its values and criticisms. In this first part, basics of 3d Photogrammetry and UAV survey methods will also be provided for the analysis of the case study both at architectural and urban scale. In the second part, the student will work for the development of a project of enhancement of the area chosen as a case study. For the whole period, lessons will be opportunely organized in order to give theoretical and methodological support for the development of the projects. The results will be publicly discussed in an open final event.... [-]
