The course will cover the full cycle of a qualitative research project; from design to data collection, analysis, reporting and disseminating. In particular, participants will be introduced to different data collecting strategies (interviews, documents, visual data, observations, etc.), different methods of data analysis (content analysis, ethnography, critical discourse analysis, etc.) and they will learn how interpreting, evaluating and disseminating the findings of the qualitative study. Finally, a software tool (Nvivo) for qualitative research analysis will be presented and participants will be introduced to the use of it.
Qualitative methods represent a valuable and meaningful research approach in social sciences. The purpose of this course is to introduce Ph.D. students and junior faculty to the diversity of ways of conducting qualitative research.
