Our Institute for International Scholars will prepare you for graduate school programs by providing focused training in writing and communication skills. Our seminar classes closely resemble the classroom experience of U.S. graduate programs. During the six-week program, you will build the skills and confidence necessary for success in your graduate school experience while exploring the Greater Boston area.
To apply for this program you must have:
- A completed undergraduate degree
- An intention to pursue further studies at a university or college
- A minimum TOEFL score of 71 (internet), 197 (computer), or 530 (paper)
Your program will consist of two main classes and afternoon extracurricular activities and excursions. You are invited to participate in the Discover America excursions on Wednesday afternoons that explore the greater Boston area. Classes meet weekdays from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. Classes have an average of 10 students and last 1 hour and 45 minutes.
Academic Speaking Course
In this class you will develop and refine your language skills for teamwork, discussions, debates, and other verbal interactions. We tailor grammar and pronunciation instruction to meet your skill level.
Research Writing Course
In this class you will learn to construct a graduate-level research paper. You will meet with your writing instructor to receive individual feedback and learn to strengthen your listening, note-taking, writing, and seminar presentation skills.
Should you need it, our program staff can arrange evening tutoring sessions to complement our intensive academic program.
