This sector provides a wide range of career opportunities in various positions, in France and overseas. Advanced Study Cycle 2: Advanced skills development and professionalization

2 years / 4 semesters

Prerequisite: undergraduate degree or equivalent experience in the field

Admission: interview, portfolio, technical tests to evaluate skills & techniques in the field of animation


Step 1: preliminary applications by portfolio / resumé before 31 January 2018.

Step 2: technical tests during March, with final result end of March.

Technical tests may include:

  • storyboard, visual storytelling
  • environmental / props design (concept development with an imposed theme) aiming to evaluate your drawing and narrative skills
  • 3D character modeling, texturing, poses

For overseas applicants, interviews can take place by Skype and your portfolio and technical tests can be processed via email and file sharing. Application dates can be flexible for overseas students (consult our staff for details).

Languages: French and English (International stream)


4th Year

The 4th Year provides new technical skills specific to the choice of each student in:

  • animation
  • image
  • Real-Time production
  • International (new students, instruction dispensed in English)

5th Year

The final year is dedicated to the production, in a team, of an animated short film. The composition of the team reflects the artistic and technical specializations each student. The graduation films are presented to a jury of industry professionals (major international studios) for the obtention of the diploma qualification. The graduate films are highly sought-after by national and international animation festivals.

Real-world, hands-on training

Master all stages of filmmaking with advanced technical training in:

  • texturing
  • surfacing
  • advanced lighting techniques
  • ZBrush, Maya, After Effects, Houdini VFX, etc.

With conferences and hands-on workshops in subjects such as:

  • directing
  • character design
  • concept art
  • sculpture
  • environmental design
  • 3D sculpting

Concept and story development sessions with professional screenwriters who guide students towards their final year projects graduation films.

MoPA organizes recruitment sessions every year at the Annecy International Animation Festival, and the end-of-year jury in Arles attracts recruiters from around the world who actively seek out our new graduate talents. Our extensive network of alumni in French and international studios are MoPA ambassadors and can help new graduates transition into their first professional posts. MoPA is a member of the RECA, the French Animation School Network. The MoPA graduate recruitment rate in the animation field is over 97%.
