Any international student who might be interested in attending SFUAD for a four-year experience has the opportunity to join the Pathway English Program – which is specifically designed for bringing your English comprehension skills up to snuff before you begin your academic experience! If you have a solid foundation in English but need some academic-based lessons, this is the perfect program for you. The goal is to make sure that you’ll be prepared to write, read, and speak at an academic, University-level in English. Classes include: College Writing, College Speech/Presentation Skills, and English for Art Purposes (such as Critique Skills & Contemporary Issues in Art and Design, Language Through Film, Communication Through Drama). This one-semester experience will prepare you to be on-par in the classroom with your peers – and you’ll be earning college credits while you raise your English skills!


Santa Fe is a city unique in the world. Its high-desert landscape, surrounded by forested mountains and possessing a special quality of light, has inspired artists for generations. Practically everyone you’ll meet here is an artist or involved in the arts. You’ll visit excellent museums, savor gourmet New Mexican food, and attend cultural festivals that celebrate the city’s Native American and Spanish heritage. In addition to the rich culture, you will find a wealth of outdoors activities nearby - you can hike, ski, or snowboard just a half-hour drive from campus.

Explore personal creativity during this 4-month intensive program which could be provided through your home university. Define your creative vision as you study with industry professionals who are faculty, mentors and guides at the university, and live within an artistic community in beautiful Santa Fe, New Mexico in the Southwestern part of the United States.

Process of admission:

  1. Permission from your University- Meet with your international coordinator. They have information of the process and scholarships.

  2. Application Guide- Thiswill guide you through your process and assure that all materials areubmitted to SFUAD.

  3. Confirmation of English- TOEFL score requirement of at least 500 for conditional admission and 550 for full.

  4. Application to SFUAD (Online Application)
  • TOEFL (Official): Full Admittance: 550; Conditional Admittance: 500-549
  • TOEFL (iBT): Full Admittance: 79+; Conditional Admittance: 61-78
  • IELTS: Full Admittance: 6+; Conditional Admittance: 5
  • LIU C1 Full Admittance: Listening - 13, Reading - 18, Speaking - 13, Writing - 8; Conditional Admittance: No more then (2) points below the cut off score in any one section, with a maximum total deficit of (4) points
  1. Receive I-20- This document confirms your eligibility to study in the United States.

  2. US Consulate Visit- You must complete an interview with the US Consulate to receive your student Visa.

  3. Receive your student F1 Visa

English Language Class:

Required for students who are conditionally admitted; students are grouped according to their proficiency level

$10,000 per semester including tuition, housing, and meals

Entry Requirements

Students who successfully meet the minimum score on the Laureate English exam (CEFR B1+, IELTS 5.0, TOEFL iBT 61) have fulfilled the English language proficiency requirement for conditional admission to an SFUAD degree program SFUAD EAP/Pathway students are required to follow the international Admissions Requirements to be considered for matriculation into degree-program at SFUAD.

SFUAD Pathway students must meet the following conditions their first semester to continue in their degree program: [as noted in 2013-2014 catalog]

  • Earn a minimum semester GPA of 2.00 in the first semester
  • Limit course load to 2-3 EASL courses and one standard SFUAD course
  • Complete all coursework within the semester (no withdrawing from a course or taking an Incomplete in any subject)
  • Meet with the Academic Resource Center (ARC) monthly once on campus

  • The semester includes 3-4 courses which can be choosen from a variety of Studio and Lecture classes.
  • Studio Class: (4 Credits): Contact Hours: six hours per week x (16) weeks
  • Lecture Class: (4 Credits): Contact Hours: four per week x (16) weeks
  • Each SFUAD course is usually worth two courses at your home University

On campus housing is triple occupancy, meaning you will have (2) additional roommates. By living on campus, you will be only a minute way from the café and classes which are the core of the American University and Community experience. Included in the room are beds, desks, closets and free internet and cable.


Fifteen meals per week, these meals can be used anytime during the week or weekend. Each meal is a buffet style with many options always available. Hot line, salad bar, soup bar, sandwich bar, dessert bar, and much more.
