Study in the tropics

For a total of 16 weeks, you will study at the University of Udayana in Bali, one of Indonesia’s most promising universities. Various field studies will give you the chance to immerse in the unique Balinese culture and research in remote communities.

Choose your preferred study orientation

The course structure of the ‘Tropical Biology & Marine Conservation’ semester in Bali is divided into two parts: compulsory courses and elective courses. You have the possibility to choose the topic you are interested in the most: either Marine Science or Tropical Biology!

Applying for the Social Visa for your study program in Bali is a crucial part of your preparations. As visa regulations change regularly, please always double check with the Indonesian embassy in your home country.

Health and Safety Systems

During the course of this semester, the classroom will move outdoors, where you will support the local community in various research and conservation tasks. Being in a tropical environment and sometimes in remote areas you are exposed to factors that call for a good risk management plan. Our team of local and international lecturers and supervisors follows a structured risk management plan that enables us to respond to any planned or unplanned risk in a fast and efficient way.

Communication standards

All student accommodations and field programs have access to mobile connection and internet.

Trained staff

Lecturers and project supervisors are briefed about all risks involved in the program and how to react fast and properly.

Student briefing

During the introduction phase of every semester and before every field trip every student will receive a proper briefing on risks and hazards involved.

Emergency Action Plans

With 8 years of experience of guiding international students through their stay abroad in Bali, we have documented guidelines concerning emergency plans and lists of nearby hospitals, that we share with each student during their briefing.

24 hours reachability

During lecturers at the university, the student will always have direct access to emergency support. During field excursions, a supervisor will be there for any emergencies. If the students are off program we provide a 24 hours emergency number, where they will receive assistance and support as far as possible.

Accommodation standards

During the lecturers at Udayana University, as well as during field trips students will only be placed in safe accommodations that our team has been inspected by our team. If students choose to look for accommodations independently, we provide a list of trusted accommodations.
