A preparatory year is a specialized academic program designed to help students prepare for their first year of college or university. The preparatory year was created to help students make a smooth transition from high school to college.
Russia or, also officially known as the Russian Federation, is a country in northern Eurasia. Education in Russia is provided predominantly by the state and is regulated by the Ministry of Education and Science. In Russia, it takes about 70 % of training time for the contact lessons with a teacher, the rest 30 % of the workload are devoted to the independent study of the material.

This program, co-sponsored by the CSUEB College of Business and Economics, is designed to assist the international student community in achieving acceptance into the CSUEB MBA program through an intensive course of study that combines GMAT and TOEFL preparation courses, and MBA foundation course work. For international students who want to study in Russian-taught bachelor’s or master’s programs but have limited or no prior knowledge of the language, Preparatory Year provides intensive training.
After covering the foundations of Russian, the program is divided into tracks devoted to humanities, economics, and technology and engineering. On successfully completing Preparatory Year, students can apply for full-tuition scholarships to HSE’s Russian-taught programs.

Each program features:
1) The opportunity to take individual classes and classes in a mini-group (2-6 students). Group classes (7-12 students) are available if you come in a group.
2) 5 levels of instruction: from beginner to advanced. Placement levels are determined by testing upon arrival.
3) At all levels students are offered courses in pronunciation, speaking, writing, reading, grammar and cultural studies.
4) At intermediate - advanced levels, programs can be complemented by additional mini-courses, such as:Reading Russian fiction. Reading newspapers and magazines. Viewing the best Russian films. The Introductory Course is offered for the Pre-Intermediate students who speak Russian but want to improve their language skills and master the language to be able to understand lectures in Russian.
