The Academy Year program is ideal for high school graduates who are exploring possibilities of further study at university, or who wish to try out undergraduate studies in the humanities through English in Bard College Berlin's international environment. Academy Year students take part in the first-year core curriculum along with incoming BA students. Besides this core program which provides fundamental knowledge of the key intellectual movements and works that founded the disciplines of the humanities, the Academy Year also includes a wide range of elective courses in literature and the arts, politics and the social sciences, and film and the practicing arts. Academy Year students may also pursue language study in German from beginner to advanced level. Academy Year students are full members of Bard College Berlin's academic community and take part in its extra-curricular clubs and societies as well as the public lecture series. All of the advantages of Bard College Berlin's co-operations with other institutes and universities in the city of Berlin are open to Academy Year students. If you have studied AS Levels elsewhere and wish to join us for A2 Levels, we will give our best advice about which courses to take. Sometimes you might need to transfer examination boards. This is usually a straightforward task and we can advise you further on this matter. The college has experience in successfully enabling students’ transition into the upper sixth year. For some international students whose English skills are judged to be not quite at the level required to undertake the Two Year A-Level Programme, a three year A-Level option is currently available. In the preparation course for studying bachelor degree in Czech for Foreigners (within the studying field Philology) we offer for students morning lessons focused on the current Czech language at the appropriate level according to CEFR and in accordance with the requirements for entrance exams. Basic preparation of linguistic, literary, historical, sociocultural and sociogeographic studies takes place in the form of afternoon interactive workshops. The content of teaching in seminars is adapted to the specific requirements of the university entrance examinations in the given field. Teachers from Czech departments of higher education universities will lecture all courses and workshops. Students acquire knowledge of the Czech environment through regular cultural activities. Every Wednesday afternoon, we offer an active cultural program which focuses on literature, film, art and music. Additionally, student participate in favorable educational walking tours with expert guides. Richly stocked library is available to students daily. Students may borrow literature required for the entrance examinations in the given field in the Czech language (e.g. grammar books of the Czech language, dictionaries, basic linguistic literature and manuals on the theory and history of literature, Czech textbooks, Czech fiction, audio / video materials).
