THIS COURSE IS HELD IN SPANISH LANGUAGE

The Postgraduate in Design for Wearables focuses on future applications of Wearable Technologies, inviting students to predict new trends, drive novel solutions, and reshaping the existing market towards more sustainable models. Students learn how to combine data-driven strategies, blurring computational design, electronic devices, rapid prototyping, AR/VR and advanced interaction into the definition of a new creative workflow.

Wearable technology or fashionable tech refers to all smart devices that can be incorporated into clothing or worn as accessories, or implanted on the body. These devices, such as trackers, electronics, software, sensors, are characterized by their ability to exchange data as part of a node system defined as the Internet of Things (IoT).

The concept of IoT refers to the identification and interconnection of all objects through the Internet. This communication protocol bridges the digital and physical realm, enhancing novel solutions to emerge in a new mixed scenario.

The impact of wearable technology is evident in education, entertainment, communication, navigation, fitness, and according to market trends will have even a larger impact in the healthcare sector, where could find the bigger potential in terms of applications.

Objectives

The Postgraduate in Wearables Design focuses on future applications of Wearable Technologies, inviting students to predict new trends, drive novel solutions, reshaping the existing market towards more sustainable models. Our goal is to redefine contemporary devices towards a new generation of cognitive nodes, connecting us to our habitats and ecosystems.

  • How an interconnected world will look like?
  • Which are the new paradigms that cornified devices will produce?
  • What will we sense in the future?

Students enrolling in this program learn how to combine data-driven strategies, blurring computational design, electronic devices, rapid prototyping, AR/VR and advanced interaction into the definition of a new creative workflow. This program trains students to master technology, questioning contemporary challenges and projecting novel solutions driven by environmental, social and economic forces reshaping our Society.

Methodology

IED Master school provides continuing training, qualifications, specializations and the chance to keep up-to-date with all aspects of design, backed by the rich historical and cultural heritage of Italian design.

Our strategy for the future is always in tune with social, environmental and financial macrotrends, and we keep a watchful eye on the changes that our cities and surroundings will need to adapt to over the coming 30 years. We believe that we can provide answers and solutions through design.

Our teaching here at IED Master is based on the four scenarios we consider crucial to face the needs of the future: a design for sustainable development, design for new business models, design for new media and design for people.

Our goal is to train professionals who are capable of harnessing cultural values and design tools to not only overcome the challenges of the future but create and drive innovation. We want our students to take responsibility for their training path and learn how to steer it with the support and tutoring of experts and professionals.

At IED Master, we see the School as a laboratory where students can be innovative, enterprising and a driving force; where they are free to experiment and create.

Student Profile

The course is aimed at designers, engineers, architects, and creatives willing to explore new tech applications in wearables and fashion tech, producing meaningful solutions for users, markets and habitats. Previous experience in product design, fashion design, digital fabrication is required.

Job Opportunities

Students enrolling in this program learn how to combine data-driven strategies, blurring computational design, electronic devices, rapid prototyping, AR/VR and advanced interaction into the definition of a new creative workflow. This program is designed to question and reshape contemporary challenges driven by environmental, social and economic forces reshaping our society.

The postgraduate program provides students with the experience and skills for career positions as:

  • Computational Designer
  • Wearable Tech expert
  • Fashion tech designer
  • Product Developer
  • Interaction Designer

Coordinator

Aldo Sollazzo – Noumena

An architect and researcher. Master in Architectonic Design in 2007, Master in Advanced Architecture at IAAC [Institute for Advanced Architecture of Catalunya] in 2012, Fab Academy diploma in 2014 in the Fab Lab Barcelona, Aldo is an expert in computational design and digital fabrication.

Since 2011, he is the director of Noumena, leading a multidisciplinary team towards the definition of new design strategies informed by tech-driven applications. He is also the Director of Reshape – digital craft community, a distributed platform promoting cutting-edge ideas merging design and manufacturing. Since 2015 he is Director of IaaC Global Summer School and faculty at Design by Data master in Paris. He is the director of the IaaC Master in Robotics and Advanced Construction, focused on the emerging design and market opportunities arising from novel robotic and advanced manufacturing systems.
