Introduction
Medicine advances daily. So will you. Gain hands-on extracurricular experiences and develop the academic competencies required for medical school through our record-enhancing post-bacc certificate program.
Why Study Pre-Med at Albion?
The Post-Baccalaureate Certificate in Premedical Studies is an intensive student cohort designed to give students first-hand experience in medicine and prepare them for their future.
This “record-enhancer” post-bacc program is ideal for students interested in further development of their academic and extracurricular competencies before they apply for admission to medical, dental, veterinary, physical therapy, physician assistant, or pharmacy school.
On our small campus, you can expect to build strong relationships with faculty and staff from different departments. Our interdisciplinary premedical post-bacc program empowers you to learn from each other and from the perspectives of different departments through hands-on activities and open dialogues. That’s why 96% of our students that have applied to medical school over the last eight years have been accepted.

Curriculum
Albion’s post-bacc certificate in premedical studies is a record-enhancing program designed to help students who have focused their education on the natural sciences and premedical areas, but may not have the exact curricular and extracurricular experiences, or academic record needed to gain entry into professional school.
This one-year program incorporates hands-on extracurricular experiences with a liberal arts education to allow for furthered development of academic competencies required for medical school.
Summer Term: 2 Units (8 credits) May – July
Students will preferably participate in an experience at The Philadelphia Center, which would include one unit of internship and a one-unit City Seminar course. The TPC internship is not required but is strongly encouraged. Students who choose to not participate in the TPC internship will begin courses at Albion College over the summer.
Fall Term: 4 Units (16 credits) August – December
Students will take four, one-unit, elective courses from the sciences and social sciences. Courses will be selected after meeting with Wilson Medical Institute advisors and based on student interests, needs, and seats available.
Spring Term: 3 Units (12 credits) January – May
Students will take three, one-unit, elective courses. Courses will be selected after meeting with Wilson Medical Institute advisors and based on student interests, needs, and seats available. Students are required to participate in professional development workshops in areas including application preparation, MCAT/DAT/GRE preparation, and public health.
Partnership with The Philadelphia Center
Leave Albion College prepared to provide for others after gaining hands-on experience at The Philadelphia Center. Secure a professional and accredited internship in Philadelphia before starting your coursework on Albion’s campus. This 10-week experience will add value to your personal and professional development by strengthening your experiences working with diverse populations. Internships range from population advocacy to humanities, and human services.
MCAT Preparation Program
Our Post-Baccalaureate Certificate program includes free MCAT/DAT/GRE preparation via a partnership with Kaplan, one of the premiere MCAT preparation programs in the country. You’ll get the structure and guidance you need to pass these exams with confidence through live courses, practice tests, and tutoring from MCAT/DAT/GRE experts.
Individualized Support
Rather than working with our post-bacc students in a group, we commit to working with each student individually. We encourage students to take their own path to professional programs based on their interests and passions and believe there is no “cookie-cutter” formula for matriculation to medical-related graduate and professional programs. Students will participate in workshops covering a wide range of topics including reflective writing, test-taking strategies, application preparation, mock interview support, and clinical observation assistance.
Our Alumni Network
Albion College has an extensive history of preparing leading medical professionals. With the help of alumni physicians, our students gain personalized clinical experiences of the highest quality. Our alumni seek to support current premedical students and engage with students frequently both on-campus and virtually. Whether you are looking for a mentor, connections to research, or a clinical experience supervisor our alumni are ready to assist you.
