Overview:

Modern Standard Arabic (MSA) is the official Arabic language. It can be written and spoken and there is no difference between the written and the spoken form. In its written form, MSA is the language of literature and media (books, newspapers, street signs, shops signs etc…)

The spoken form is the language used on television, in the government and parliament and on official occasions (conferences, seminars etc…)

MSA program at Al-Baher is divided into four levels: (Beginner- Pre-intermediate-Intermediate and Advanced) these courses ensure a smooth transmission for the students starting from the beginner level up to the advanced level according to the standards of the common European framework of reference for languages (CEFR).

Levels:

MSA program at Al-Baher is divided into four levels:

1) The Beginner Level:

*Start: 0

*End: Speaking and Listening Comprehension: (A2)

Reading and Writing Comprehension: (A1+)

* Learning Goals:

At the end of this level, students should be able to:

1- Give basic information about themselves and their everyday interactions.

2- Communicate with simple sentences and have basic understanding of the Arab culture.

3- Read and understand familiar words and simple sentences.

4- Write simple correspondences (messages, emails, etc…) using the standard writing.

2) The Pre-Intermediate Level:

CEFR

*Start: Speaking and Listening Comprehension: (A2)

Reading and Writing Comprehension: (A1+)

*End: Speaking and Listening Comprehension: (B1)

Reading and Writing Comprehension: (A2).

*Learning Goals:

At the end of this level, students should be able to:

1- Communicate in everyday situations in simple sentences using different tenses when the standard language is used.

2- Understand even more complex sentence structure in various contexts.

3- Read and analyze basic Arabic texts and main points.

4- Write short texts, letters, reports etc…

3) The Intermediate Level:

*Start: Speaking and Listening Comprehension: (B1)

Reading and Writing Comprehension: (A2)

*End: Speaking and Listening Comprehension: (B2)

Reading and Writing Comprehension: (B1 / B2)

*Learning Goals:

1- Give clear detailed descriptions on a wide range of topics and subjects. Expand, link, and support arguments logically.

2- Understand and interact effectively in complex speech.

3- Read and rapidly understand the content and the significance of various topics (news, articles, reports etc…)

4- Write at length clear detailed descriptions applying proper grammar.

4) The Advanced Level:

CEFR

*Start: Speaking and Listening Comprehension: (B2)

Reading and Writing Comprehension: (B1/ B2)

*End: Speaking and Listening Comprehension: (C1)

Reading and Writing Comprehension: (B2 / C1)

*Learning Goals:

At the end of this level, students should be able to

1- Interact effectively with Arabic native speakers and skillfully use clear, well-structured descriptions on complex topics and discuss them fluently.

2- Follow most lectures, discussions, and debates in different fields.

3- Read, understand and analyze various levels of books, newspapers, articles and different other sources.

4- Write clear, well-structured texts on complex topics in an appropriate style with good grammatical control.
