This year MGIMO International Summer School offers two intensive Modules “Russian Foreign Policy: Modern Challenges” and “Russian Energy Policy and International Energy Cooperation”.
Both Modules are taught in English by renowned internationally recognized MGIMO University professors, at a graduate level. Students will attend daily lectures, followed by group discussions and teamwork projects, meet prominent Russian politicians and diplomats, representatives of Russian and international big businesses.
Each module consists of Discipline-Specific Courses (62 contact hours including an oral exam, 5 ECTS credits), and 30 contact hours and 14 field trip hours of the Russian Language Course (4 ECTS credits). The Russian language course is taught in groups composed of students with similar levels of proficiency in the Russian language.
The International Summer School Module “Russian Foreign Policy: Modern Challenges” will be held by MGIMO-University in its Odintsovo Campus on June 23 – July 13, 2019.
This intensive Module on Russian foreign policy will focus on major courses: “Russia’s Foreign Policy: Modern Challenges” and “Empirical Study of Russian Politics (Political Process in Contemporary Russia)” and a course of the Russian language.
The Module study plan will also include: an interactive lecture “Russia's Position in World Politics: Foreign Strategy Challenges and Prospects” by a distinguished political analyst, MGIMO Professor Andrey Bezrukov, followed by a discussion; a round-table discussion of current foreign policy topical issues chaired by Maxim Samorukov, Member of the Research Council and the Foreign and Security Policy Program of Carnegie Moscow Center; a lecture “Energy Component as an Integral Part of International Policy” by Sergey Vasiliev, Director of MGIMO-University Odintsovo Branch, followed by a discussion of the key role played by Energy Diplomacy in the foreign policy of the 21st Century.
Another International Summer School Module “Russian Energy Policy & International Energy Cooperation” will be also held by MGIMO-University in its Odintsovo Campus on July 14 – August 3, 2019.
The Module is designed to familiarize students with the history and current shape of Russian oil and gas industry, its main drivers and possible future trends in its development.
The Module encompasses structural factors that have defined the industry since the Soviet era, current corporate and competitive landscape, legislative and taxation regime that has an everyday impact on the decision-making process of the industry’s top management. The Module emphasizes the role of host governments, fiscal regimes and legal framework regulating development and production of energy resources.
Another purpose of the Module is to assist students in the acquisition of broad spectrum of knowledge and facts allowing them to have an insight into the way business practices operate in a national, international and global context in the oil and gas industry.
The Module consists of three major courses: “International Business Environment for the Oil & Gas Sector & Current Energy Policy of Russia”, “Development of Arctic Energy Resources: Challenges & Perspectives”, “Upstream & Downstream Sectors in Russia: Current Situation”, and a course of the Russian language. The Module study plan will also include: “International Energy Security: Russian Perspective” and “Shtokman Project, Russian – Norwegian Energy Cooperation”
Tuition fee for one Module is 2 500 Euros. It covers application processing, tuition, visa support, free use of outstanding sports facilities (12 specialized gyms including a 25-meter swimming pool), course certificate after graduation, a wide selection of afternoon and evening activities, 4 coach excursions per Module, welcome and graduation events, free WiFi, MGIMO T-shirt, and all the equipment and material needed for the Module.
International Summer School 2019 will be held at a new MGIMO University campus in Odintsovo, in the prestigious Moscow suburban area “Rublevka”, where the President of Russia and most of the Federal ministers reside. Located at a 25-kilometer distance from the Red Square of Moscow, the new campus is noted for the healthy country-side environment and an efficient transportation system bringing you to downtown Moscow in no more than half an hour. The Summer School students will be placed at the “MGIMO Hotel” in Odintsovo, an officially registered 3-star Hotel attached to the main building.
Accommodation Allocation and Fees
For shared accommodation for 21 days in a twin-room at the University Hotel (including breakfast) you will be charged 840 Euros, for twin room sole occupancy (including breakfast) – 1 365 Euros. Studios are available at the “University Hotel” on request at 1680 Euros including breakfast. These prices will follow the exchange rate accordingly.
In your Application form, please, indicate what type of room shall be reserved for you.
Upon arrival you will pay for the room reserved for you according to standard hotel payment procedures. Late checkout is available.
Accommodation between consecutive Modules
Those attending two consecutive Modules and intending to stay at the Hotel will not be charged for the night between the Modules. Please indicate on your Application form if you wish to do this, otherwise we shall assume you will not need this accommodation and you will be asked to clear your room. Similarly, if you plan to arrive early before, or stay on late after a Module, you will need to notify us and reserve a room for an extra charge.
