This programme is for anyone who has a background in film or media production wishing to develop their skills as a director. By engaging with the conflicting demands of the filmmaking process, students will address the creative goals as well as the technical and leadership challenges inherent in the role.
Through a series of practical exercises and collaboration this course aims to prepare students to realise their vision from pre-production through to postproduction. Clarity of vision, organisation and preparation are key. In this respect, the collaboration between the director and the writer, producer and cinematographer, and other heads of department, is explored as an integral part of the development and pre-production process, leading up to the shoot.
By the end of this course you will be able to:
- Work effectively within a feature film production environment
- Understand what is expected from a director from pre-production to postproduction
- Employ effective motivational strategies when working with actors
