Program Description

Jewellery Workshop

Kensington and Chelsea College

1

Our motivating and enthusiastic team of Jewellery and Silversmithing lecturers are all practising makers and freelance commercial designers as well as experienced teachers.

The department is well connected with the industry and current events and benefits from links with businesses in Hatton Garden’s jewellery quarter and with galleries, suppliers and exhibitions across London.

Our team promotes a ‘hands on’ experience where you can learn and practice a wide range of skills for constructing, soldering and forming metal as well as stone setting, surface decoration and finishing. Our courses offer as much bench-work experience as possible as we believe this nurtures a thorough understanding of practical and 3-dimensional problem solving as well as gaining knowledge about materials and processes.

Our practical approach will develop your confidence, creativity and imagination. You will be encouraged and supported to find your own individual identity as designers and makers whether you are planning a career in jewellery or simply enjoying learning your craft.

Five of our past students have been winners in the jewellery category of the V & A’s annual ‘Inspired By’ competition and many more runners up have exhibited their work at the V & A during this competition over the past 11 years.

Students have progressed to Higher Education at degree and MA level and set up their own successful businesses. Amongst the professional designers exhibiting at Origin, Goldsmith’s Fair and Dazzle are those who began their journey to success at Kensington and Chelsea College.

These are part time Jewellery and Silversmithing courses. For more substantial Jewellery, Glass and Pottery courses please check our Art and Design Qualifications courses.
