Presentation and objectives

The Seminar on Criminal Law. Comparative criminal law and philosophy of Criminal Law has fulfilled in 15 years of continuous research in criminal sciences in 2017. Founded in the San Pablo CEU University of Madrid, it has been part of Instituto Universitario de Investigación Ortega y Gasset since 2002. The members of the Seminar have published in specialized journals a number of scientific articles and several books of their specialty. The Seminar has been visited by numerous European and Latin American professors, who have intervened as lecturers or as researchers in one or several courses.

The importance acquired by the Economic Criminal Law, both in Europe and in Latin America, as well as the similarity of normative norms have promoted the idea of organizing in cooperation with Goberna, a first course especially dedicated to students of criminal law in Ibero-American countries .

The recipients of this course are graduates in legal sciences, doctoral students, judges, prosecutors and judicial officials.

The orientation of the course will be basically practical and will have as its preferred and outstanding object the most significant judicial resolutions of the present.

The course will have three modules: a) lessons, b) lectures and c) seminar.

The University Research Institute will grant a diploma of attendance and, to those who undergo certain tests, a diploma of approval.

Methodology

The Course, which will be taught over ten working days (2/6 and 9/13 July, 2018), contemplates the holding of daily conferences on the topics covered by the program of the Course, with concrete cases that allow debate, and several seminars on various subjects related to the specialty of economic criminal law, which today appears as an area of special relevance both in the dogmatic and in practice. It is also foreseen that several extraordinary conferences will take place, under the charge of professors Enrique Bacigalupo (Ortega y Gasset Research Institute), José Miguel Zugaldía (University of Granada) and Jesús Silva Sánchez (University of Barcelona), among others.

Module B: Conferences

Penalistas of recognized prestige, among them, is confirmed the presence of Professor D. Maximiliano Rusconi, Professor of Criminal Law and Criminal Procedure of the University of Buenos Aires (Argentina).

Module C: Seminars

The Seminars have a duration of 2 hours and they will dictate the thesis on some of the topics developed in the course.

The participants can prepare their interventions to be discussed in the Seminar

INSTITUTIONAL VISITS: The course will have two institutional visits to the headquarters of the Supreme Court and the Constitutional Court, which will be guided by active members of both institutions.
