INTENSIVE ESL PROGRAM IS IDEAL FOR SERIOUS STUDENTS
The Intensive ESL program is ideal for the most serious ESL students who wish to improve their ESL skills in the shortest amount of time. Students in the Intensive ESL program receive the greatest number of hours of instruction per day, allowing them to develop all their ESL skills in a more intensive and focused way by maximizing the amount of classroom hours spent interacting in and practicing English.
Because the Intensive ESL program combines the course content of both the Standard ESL and Conversation programs, students gain the benefits of both programs by improving their skill development in and practicing several different important areas of the English language. These include grammar, reading, writing, listening, and speaking, as well as more efficient and effective communication through exposure to slang and idioms, pronunciation, accent reduction, and presentation skills. Students not only increase their foundational ESL skills, they also learn useful, practical skills for communicating in professional, academic, and day-to-day situations and gain a deeper understanding of how to communicate with other English speakers by practicing vowel and consonant sounds, intonation, stress and rhythm, literal and figurative meanings of expressions, and implied meanings.
INTENSIVE ESL PROGRAM IS CHALLENGING AND FUN
In addition, teachers enhance the students’ learning experiences through the challenging and fun curriculum. The textbooks and support material cover a number of stimulating topics that connect to the students’ lives and experiences, particularly while they are living in Los Angeles. Students apply their ESL knowledge in various engaging in-class and out-of-class activities that take place throughout Los Angeles, that reinforce the lessons taught in the classroom. Students are also encouraged to interact with their classmates, who often come from widely differing backgrounds and points of view. Teachers use various technologies and multi-media in the lessons: computers and tablets, television programs, films, print advertisements, and commercials. Teachers track students’ progress by giving weekly quizzes, presentations, research projects, speeches, and individual and group projects.
