British Institute of Facilities Management Level 5 Certificate and Diploma

The College has an extensive track record in this field and provides the course through a team who have a considerable subject, educational and industrial expertise.

The Level 5 programme is intended for professionals with several years’ FM experience who will normally have mid-management experience in a facilities management sector and wish to enhance their specialist and management skills. The structure complies with the requirements of the National Qualifications and Credit Framework and is made up of mandatory and optional units for either the Certificate or Diploma qualification. Assessment for these units is by written assignments.

The delivery of the diploma programme will be over forty-three weeks, one evening per week in four terms. There are lectures and workshop sessions as well as email support in the programme, shown overleaf. The course for the certificate programme could also extend over this period, but dependant upon the units selected, completion could vary to a period as short as twenty-two weeks, 16 lectures and 6 workshops, one evening per week in two terms. These are interactive and lecturer led sessions, but learners are expected to share their experiences with the group. Whilst documentation will be provided, learners should purchase the books shown on the reading list, below. The Level 5 programme will normally be delivered on Tuesday evenings.

Learners may need to develop new skills, such as analysis, communication and a range of presentation methods. The workshops will focus on both subject information and skills necessary to support the assignments. Attending all of the college sessions will generally not be adequate for individuals to complete the programme or units. Learners must expect to frequently allocate a significant amount of their own time in order to research, prepare, edit, finalise and submit assignments in order to be successful.
