Be inspired and explore your creativity with Fine Art!
We offer a wide range of exciting and challenging fine art courses run by an energetic and enthusiastic team of lecturers who are practicing artists and freelance commercial designers and photographers. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced artist, you’ll be able to extend your technical skills and build confidence in your creative ability. You can choose a course from many Art and Photography areas, and study either by day or evening. You will be encouraged to explore materials, approaches and techniques in an extensive range of both certificated and non-certificated art and design courses.
Our Fine Art qualification courses provide a unique opportunity for those who wish to begin their artistic careers with a challenging and rewarding period of study.
This course is equivalent to the first year of a Fine Art BA course. The Btec HNC specialises in Fine Art and enables students to pursue their ideas in drawing, painting, sculpture, video and printmaking. The principal course tutors are practising and exhibiting artists. Other specialist tutors within the college also contribute to the course. Underpinning the course are units in Contextual Studies (contemporary art context) and Professional Practice. Emphasis throughout is on acquiring and developing creative and technical skills through research and studio projects. There is an opportunity to show work in two exhibitions during the course. “The programme is contemporary in feeling, fostering high achievement and strong individuality amongst students, the highest achieving students producing ambitious, conceptually and formally rigorous work” Chris Hunt, External Evaluator.
