It is quite possible to become a good graphic designer during the study program, even without any prior knowledge. The first year of the course provides practical understanding of the principles, methods and techniques in effective visual communication for print as well as screen. You receive in-depth training in design software and form a good understanding of the guidelines and standards that are expected in the industry. You unfold your skills visually and creatively with exciting assignments. The second year takes you further into the design profession and you work towards finding out who you are as a designer. What do you like to work with, do you have any talents you did not know about perhaps, or is there a particular style you should develop and make your own? You learn further how to link art, design and technology together to create new expressions that excites.
During your study period, you will be challenged with real, practical and relevant projects that will give an idea of the industry expectations and the challenges that may face you as a professional designer. The best time to experiment with new ideas and finding your own style is during your studies. Several of the projects will allow you to work freely and explore with several creative techniques.
Choosing an effective method and creative approach is crucial to the end result of what you produce. The course focuses on the creative process of design, which starts with defining the brief, researching well before proceeding on with developing ideas, sketching and then finally completing the designed end product. It is a challenging and methodical process, but nothing is more satisfying than seeing your sketched ideas transforming into a finished, professionally sound design solution.
The classes are based on lectures, demonstrations and workshops with practical assignments. The semesters are divided into modules where you concentrate on one topic at a time and the submission of your assignments. Towards the end of each semester, students will have one week at their disposition to refine and represent their projects in a portfolio. Each semester rounds off with a more extensive study project that emphasizes on creative and strategic problem solving, production quality and presentation aimed towards a client.

As a graphic designer, you will possess the knowledge and skills of branding, information design, web design and motion graphics. You can work in a design or advertising agency, at a printer or in the publication industry such as books or magazines, in the fashion industry, in film and television, with musicians, organizations in Arts and Culture, or as a freelancer.
Some of the tasks of a graphic designer includes designing logos and visual identities, brochures, advertisements and posters, magazines or book covers, product packaging, signs, trade fairs and exhibitions, websites, information design, film and television vignettes etc.
In larger corporations with their own information, communication or marketing departments, you can also work as a Marketing Coordinator or an Information Consultant. You can expect to be tasked with updating their company identity manual, designing various marketing materials, updating, managing and designing the information hierarchy of their websites, producing interactive advertisements or digital presentations.
As you increase your work experience, or top off your graphic design education with further studies, it is common to aim towards positions such as Art Direction for instance, with the responsibility of major client management and more extensive projects. Additionally, you can work as a Communications Consultant with consulting expertise in general graphic design, media options and information structures.
