Graduate Certificate in Project Management

The learning experiences offered in this program are designed to foster excellence in project management practice and to support continuous improvement in your professional practice. You will develop your ability to integrate project management theoretical and conceptual knowledge with the practice of project management, and develop the skills required to effectively project mange diverse projects. You will engage in learning experiences which reflect the interdisciplinary nature of the profession.

Your learning experiences will engage you in a broad mix of learning activities including lectures, work based simulations, interactive seminars, on line discussions, group work, and industry and research led projects. You will be encouraged to pursue your own research and intellectual interests related to the project management profession and your learning will be informed and enriched by current and emerging research into the profession of project management.

Assessment is designed to give you opportunities to demonstrate your capabilities You will find that the forms of assessment used may be different for each course. depending on the course objectives and learning outcomes.

Your assessment in this program will include all or some of the following:

  • Examinations: an individual form of assessment where you are asked to demonstrate your capability to explain principles and solve problems;
  • Assignments and projects: some will require you to demonstrate your ability to work alone, while some will involve group work, requiring you to work as part of a team with other students;
  • Reflective journals: where you pause to consider what you have learnt and reflect on the further development of the related capability;
  • Assessed tutorials or presentations:a form of in-class test which you will be required to complete either individually or as a team.

If you have a long term medical condition and/or disability it may be possible to negotiate to vary aspects of the learning or assessment methods.

Objectives of the program

The Graduate Certificate in Project Management is designed to enable you to develop your critical knowledge of project management theories and concepts and apply these across a range of project management professions. This program emphasises the application of theoretical knowledge to practice and is designed to build your capability to respond to current and emerging issues, trends and management practices. Upon graduation with a Graduate Certificate in Project Management you will be able to work as a project management professional and apply your capability and expertise to diverse organisations and industries, including construction and property. This program will provide you with a foundation to further develop your project management capability through your professional practice and/or further study.

Articulation and pathways

Pathways refer to related programs for which you may be eligible once you have graduated from your current program. Successful completion of this program provides a pathway into the Graduate Diploma of Project Management. Upon successful completion of this program you may be eligible to undertake further studies in related programs at RMIT University.

Entrance Requirements

Applicants must have one of the following:

  • An advanced diploma plus five years relevant work experience
  • A bachelor degree in any discipline plus three years relevant work experience.
  • A bachelor degree in a related discipline

In addition, international students require one of the following:

  • IELTS of 6.5+ (no band less than 6.0)
  • TOEFL – Paper based = 580+ (TWE 4-5+)
  • TOEFL – Computer based = 237+ (TWE 4.5+)
  • ELICOS – EAP Advanced
  • RMIT English Worldwide (REW) - Advanced
