General English and International Certificates

Andover School Of English

Course Content

In addition to general English courses focusing on the overall English language skills development, we also offer EFL international certificates like PET, FCE, CAE and IELTS awarded by Cambridge University.

  • Beginners – General English (no exams)
  • Elementary – General English (no exams)
  • Pre-intermediate – General English (no exams)
  • Intermediate – General English (no exams; PET preparation possible)
  • Upper- intermediate – FCE/IELTS
  • Advanced – CAE/IELTS
  • 1-to-1 tuition – all levels

Regardless of the purpose of the course, whether aimed at improving the English language skills in general or preparing for particular qualification, the ESOL programme covers speaking, listening, reading, writing and grammar, facilitating well-balanced language skills development. The students study at seven levels, from beginners to advanced.

Timetable

Our students attend two sessions a week, 1.5 hours each. To accommodate the students who work shifts or share child care, our timetable offers a choice between morning or evening classes.

All evening classes are run on Mondays and Wednesdays, and the sessions are scheduled from 17.30 to 19.00, and from 19.10 to 20.40. Which of these sessions you will be attending will depend on your level.

Morning classes are timetabled either for Mondays and Wednesdays, or Tuesdays and Thursdays. There are two-morning sessions, 09.30 – 11.00, and 11.10 – 12.40. Which of them you will be attending will be determined by your level.

Some students have very individual needs in terms of their aims or their availability. Therefore, regular classes may not suit their requirements. To those students, we offer one-to-one tuition which is negotiable in terms of time, frequency and length. We also offer sessions in small groups of two or three to make sure that everybody’s needs and requirements are met.

Course materials and books

Students will be advised to buy textbooks as their main resource. These will be complemented by a variety of materials prepared by the teachers. The textbooks will be available at the school at a reasonable price as we order them in bulk. For those who decide against buying a textbook, there will be a possibility to use a textbook belonging to the school, but you will be asked not to write in it or take it home.

The PET, FCE, CAE and IELTS students will work with their textbooks too. It is particularly beneficial for exam preparation courses as it facilitates direct reference to the exam structure and content. We will support you with the book purchase.
