Foundation year programs are intended to lead to higher level degree programs. Students who wish to become better prepared for university studies, who may be unsure if college is right for them, or who have recently received a high school diploma or GED should consider pursuing a foundation year diploma.

So, what is a foundation year in social sciences? Social sciences covers a broad range of fields such as business law, politics, economics, international relations, psychology, sociology and history. Your foundation year will provide basic knowledge in these areas via lecture, labs, group work and tutorials. You will also participate in courses in study skills, communication and critical thinking to further engender success in future degree programs.

Because a foundation year in social sciences can be tailored to individual goals, students find themselves uniquely prepared for study at the university level. Knowledge of basic principles in social science along with study, communication and critical thinking skills increase likelihood of education and career success.

A foundation year in social science diploma can usually be obtained in six months to a year. A number of factors including residency can affect the cost, so it is highly recommended that you contact your schools of interest directly for current fees and tuition rates.

Your foundation year in social sciences will provide you with the knowledge and skills to succeed in a higher education degree program. In fact, some foundation year schools guarantee admission to a college undergraduate degree program upon receipt of your diploma.
